Kwankwaso’s strides in education as Kano governor
In a 2022 expository article, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) highlights the challenges of education in Nigeria. One in every five of the world’s out-of-school-children is in Nigeria. Even though primary education is officially free and compulsory, about 10.5 million of the country’s children aged 5-14 years are out of school.
The situation is cheerless in Northern Nigeria, with a net attendance rate of 53 percent. UNICEF lists economic barriers and socio-cultural norms and practices as principal factors that discourage attendance in formal education. To solve this issue, a few government officials have invested heavily in the educational sector. Dr. Rabiu Kwankwaso is one of them.

1.2m persons need emergency education in Borno, Adamawa, Yobe, says TRCN
Following constant attacks on schools in the North East and the accompanying decline in foreign investment inflow and untold pressure on the local economy, 1.2 million people require emergency education in Borno, Adamawa and Yobe states.
Registrar and Chief executive of Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), Prof. Olusegun Ajiboye, who made the submission, yesterday, at the 58th (seventh quadrennial) Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) National Delegates Conference in Ibadan, Oyo State, noted: “The presence of armed forces in and near schools can make it a target of retaliatory attacks, increasing the risk to children and teachers, as well as the likelihood that education will be disrupted.”

Parents in England whose children miss school face harsher penalties depending on where they live, a BBC Panorama investigation has found.
Fines, which begin at £60, but rise if not paid promptly, totalled more than £8.6m in the past school year.

NGO seeks support for northern children
A Non-Governmental Organisation, Northern Hibiscus Initiative, has said it planned to ensure northern Nigerian children be at par with their southern counterparts, educationally.

Foundation equips FCT students with school items
The Mona Audu Foundation has equipped over 700 students in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, with school supplies to enable them to return for the new academic session.

Return schools to owners, alumni beg govt
The Alumni of Timi Agbale Grammar School Ede, Osun State, have appealed to the Nigerian government to return the schools it took away from their founders back to them.
A statement signed by the president of the alumni, Dr Olusegun Adewara, and the General Secretary, Mr Femi Adeyinka, to announce the 60th anniversary celebration of the school this weekend, said like many others in Nigeria, most state governments could not maintain their secondary schools.

Group laments poor performance of pupils in science
A group, under the auspices of the Zenith Club of Nigeria, has said it will continue to contribute to the development of education in Ondo State, particularly, the Ondo Kingdom.

Insecurity: 1,500 schools closed, 2,295 teachers killed since North East insurgency – TRCN
The Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) has called attention to the state of basic education in the North East, warning that about one thousand five hundred schools have been forced to close in the region
The Registrar/Chief Executive Officer of TRCN Professor Olusegun Ajiboye, who made these disclosures while speaking in Ibadan, Oyo State said the schools were forced to close over insecurity occasioned by terrorism.
