The scholarship programme is the most sought after at the University of Cambridge by international postgraduate students.
James-Okoro, who bagged a degree in Biochemistry from Covenant University, Ogun State, will study the mechanisms by which gut hormones control body weight and blood sugar levels. Her dream is to develop treatments that modulate gut hormones to tackle obesity.

Katsina SUBEB expends N9b on basic learning in three years
The Katsina State Universal Education Board (SUBEB) has expended over $21million on various interventions on basic education in the last three years.
According to the board’s chairman, Lawal Buhari, the amount was expended under the Better Education Service Delivery for All Programme (BESDA).

Alumni donate e-teaching gadgets to UNILAG’s law faculty
Lecture delivery at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) Faculty of Law has received a boost with the installation of electronic teaching and instructional gadgets.
The newly installed facilities, including two e-learning interactive boards, four audio speakers, computer systems and library furniture, were inspected by the university management, led by the Vice Chancellor, Prof Oluwatoyin Ogundipe.

Group faults medical council over competence of Ukraine graduates
A group, Concerned Parents of Ukraine Medical Graduates of 2022, has kicked against the allegation of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) that some graduates from Eastern European countries were not qualified to practice the profession.
In a statement, jointly signed by Chairman and Vice Chairman of the group, Akeem Tajudeen and Kelechi Obi, respectively, the group insisted that their children were qualified to practice the profession, which they were issued certificates and enjoined members of the public to disregard the statement from council.

Katsina, UNICEF launch e-learning platform, target 10,000 learners, teachers
The Katsina State government, in collaboration with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), has launched the Nigeria Learning Passport (NLP) aimed at enrolling 10,000 learners and teachers before the end of 2023.
The state coordinator of NLP, Usamatu Gona, who disclosed this to journalists shortly after inaugurating the programme, said it is an online learning platform with mobile and offline capability that enables continuous access to quality education.

Group launches accountability tools to resolve learning crisis in Africa
Human Capital Africa (HCA) has launched accountability tools to tackle the learning crisis across the continent. The group uses evidence to propel the government to take steps that would improve foundational literacy and numeracy outcomes for children in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA).
The event which was held at the Harvard Club, New York, on the sideline of the United Nations Transforming Education Summit, called attention to the scale of the learning crisis in Africa, where nine out of 10 children are unable to read with understanding at age 10.

NUC and battle against fake professors in varsities
Most universities around the world grapple with issues of academic corruption, hence the recent directive by the National Universities Commission (NUC) for vice-chancellors to compile a comprehensive list of full professors in their respective institutions over reports of fake professors becomes an eye-opener.
The commission had asked VCs to forward the list, which must include names of professors, departments, year of professorship and area of specialisation.

100 students paid one-year tuition fee to fake health college in Niger
The Niger State Police Command has arrested the Proprietor of Excellence College of Health Sciences and Technology, Maikunkele, in Bosso Council, Niger State, Daniel Ishaya Gurmana.
Spokesman of the command, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, in a statement, said on September 8, 2022, police operatives attached to the Intelligence Unit of the command, arrested Daniel Ishaya of Gurmana, Shiroro Council, proprietor and Francis Ede, aged 30, from Enugu State, director of the institution.

UNIBEN announces dates for post-UTME, DE screenings amidst ASUU strike
The management of University of Benin has fixed dates for its Post-Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and Direct Entry screenings for 20222023 session.

The university, in a notice by its Registrar, Mr Ademola Bobola on Wednesday in Benin, said that the exercise would hold between Nov. 14 and Nov. 25.
Bobola said that the screening would be conducted in designated centres at the Ugbowo main campus of the institution, using the Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode.
