Osun state government has been charged to do more on inclusive education in the state by encouraging children with disabilities to attend mainstream schools like their counterparts without disabilities.

University staff to strike over pay and pensions
University lecturers, librarians and admin staff across the UK will strike over pay and pensions, the University and College Union (UCU) has announced.
A total of 70,000 UCU members at 150 universities were asked to vote in two separate ballots – one on pay and working conditions, and another on pensions.

NBTE shifts focus to practical education in curriculum
The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) said it had shifted it focus from paper qualification to practical education to better equip its growing polytechnic students across the country.
The team leader, Dr. E.I.E. Onyeocha, who disclosed this during the opening session of NBTE accreditation visit at the Niger State Polytechnic in Zungeru, said that the paradigm shift to practical training was necessitated to combat the unemployment rate of polytechnic graduands in the country.

One in five girls in England don’t feel safe at school – survey
The Guardian reported that Girls and young women in the north of England feel less safe and less happy than their counterparts in London and the south, according to a survey by the Girlguiding charity, which is concerned about “stark” regional differences in attitudes.
More than one in five (22%) girls and young women in the north aged 11-16 who took part in the survey published on Tuesday blamed fear of sexual harassment for holding them back at school. The figure was significantly lower at 16% in London and the south.

California teacher charged with hiding missing teenager for nearly two years
Still on the Guardian, For nearly two years, a California teacher hid a boy who had been reported missing at age 15, authorities allege.
Sacramento public school teacher Holga Castillo Olivares, 61, is accused of concealing the fact that the teenager was staying at her home despite a report that the boy was missing since the spring of 2020.

ECOWAS Youth Summit focuses adverse effects of terrorism on education
Participants in the 2022 ECOWAS Youth Summit, a programme that brings together, from time to time, secondary schools in Nigeria and other West African countries to discuss issues, have called on the government to do something about the adverse effect of insecurity ravaging the region on the quality of education that students receive.
Their call comes against the backdrop of a recent report by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) of 9,272 schools in Nigeria and nine other countries across West and Central Africa being shut down between 2017 and 2019 because of terrorist attacks.

Its Director-General, Lamido Yuguda, revealed this in a statement while announcing SEC’s collaboration with the Financial Literacy Technical Committee (FLTC), is set to join the rest of the world between Monday, 24 and Friday, 28 October, 2022, to celebrate the 6th edition of the 2022 World Investor Week (WIW), being coordinated by the International Organisation of Securities Commissions (IOSCO).
