Education fair: Swiss schools arrive Lagos Nov
A number of Switzerland-based post-primary institutions will visit Lagos in November for consultation with parents who are interested in enrolling their wards in Swiss Boarding Schools.
This was disclosed in a statement by issued by Director of Swiss Learning, Christophe Clivaz, in collaboration with its consulting firm, Mark Brooks Education, obtained on Saturday.

The Mcphilips Arts and Educational Foundation is set to hold a Secondary school Poetry competition, scheduled to take place on Saturday, November 5, 2022 at Penny International College, Coker, Aguda Surulere, along Apapa-Oshodi Expressway, Lagos.
Speaking with Vanguard on the poetry competition, founder of the foundation and wife of late Mcphilips Nwachukwu, former Arts Editor of Vanguard Newspaper, Mrs. Tyna Mcphilips Nwachukwu, said the purpose of the event is to encourage students to study poetry.

This has over the years become the lot of helpless students in the country’s universities who cannot afford the high tuition fees in private universities, let alone travelling overseas for education. Absolutely, nothing is wrong with attending public schools except some shortfalls and extremisms.
Prominent among them is the industrial action always embarked upon at every election year by the umbrella body of lecturers – the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) which makes public schools look unserious.

NUC and battle against fake professors in varsities
Most universities around the world grapple with issues of academic corruption, hence the recent directive by the National Universities Commission (NUC) for vice chancellors to compile a comprehensive list of full professors in their respective institutions over reports of fake professors becomes an eye-opener.
The commission had asked VCs to forward the list, which must include names of professors, department, year of professorship and area of specialisation.

When Andrew Brennen thinks about the US supreme court deliberations over race-conscious admissions, he reflects on his parents, both attorneys, and his brother. In 2009, his father, David, became the first Black dean of the University of Kentucky’s law school since the state desegregated its colleges and universities.
“Had they not had access to higher education that they received, who knows what they would’ve been doing,” Brennen, who graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2019, says. “I’m thinking a lot about how different my life, my brother’s life, would be if affirmative action hadn’t been in place.”

Experts fear rising global ‘incel’ culture could provoke terrorism
Almost 1,000 references to dehumanising misogyny or violent action are recorded each day in the “incelosphere” as the toxicity of male supremacist content continues to intensify.
Analysis of the incel movement found that online references to inflicting violence and extremely degrading language on dedicated incel forums are running eight times higher than in 2016, when researchers first began tracking misogynist content on the internet.
