Nigeria: Stakeholders call for increased access to diabetes education

Commemorating the 2022 World Diabetes Day, the Nigeria Minister of State for Health, Ekumankama Joseph Nkama, on 14 November, emphasized that increased access to diabetes education among the populace is critical to the prevention and management of the disease.

The minister, in a press briefing in Abuja, said that a large majority of people living with the disease in Nigeria have little or no knowledge of diabetes and its complications, and this has been increasing the risk of developing the disease.

FEC approves N10.96bn for contracts in education, 145 vehicles for FRSC

The Federal Executive Council (FEC), on Wednesday, approved about N10.95 billion for projects in the ministry of education, as well as to purchase vehicles for the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).

Adamu Adamu, minister of education, stated this on Wednesday, while briefing State House journalists, after the FEC meeting, presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

UNIBEN ASUU rejects half salaries

Members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Benin (UNIBEN) chapter, said the Federal Government’s action concerning the half salaries paid lecturers for October is an onslaught against intellectuals aimed at demoralising the workforce in the Universities and preparing the ground for the eventual destruction of the system.

The aggrieved lecturers, during a peaceful rally within the institution’s campus in Benin City, Edo State led by ASUU Chairman, UNIBEN Chapter, Ray Chikogu and Secretary, Success Abusomwan, accused the Federal Government of the systematic destruction of the Nigerian University system by withholding of the salaries of University intellectuals for the month of March to September 2022.
