The National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools has emphasised the need for a better and quality education sector.

Speaking at a virtual meeting, National President, NAPPS, Mr Yomi Otubela, revealed that the 2022 annual NAPPS International Conference and Exhibition was titled, “ Revamping Africa’s education for sustainable development: Private education perspective,” would discuss and proffer suggestions to the development of education.

OOU matriculates 7,000 students for 2021/2022 session

Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago-Iwoye on Thursday matriculated no fewer than 7,000 fresh students into various programmes for the 2021/2022 academic session.

The students, who were newly admitted across the Colleges, Faculties and Departments of the University, took the Oath of Allegiance at the matriculation ceremony held at the Otunba Gbenga Daniel Hall, Main Campus of the University, Ago-Iwoye.

FG moves to harmonise standard of BECE

The Federal Ministry of Education has organized a review meeting on the harmonization of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) to eliminate the disparity in its quality and standard at the national level.

The Nigerian News Agency reports that the fifth edition of the two-day meeting which started on Wednesday in Ilorin is for Registrars and Chief Executive Officers of state examination bodies and FCTs.

State schools in England will receive a funding boost of £2.3bn a year for the next two years, Jeremy Hunt has announced, with the Treasury saying the extra funds amount to an “average cash increase for every pupil of more than £1,000 by 2024-25” compared with last year.

The extra cash would see core schools funding rise from £53.8bn this year to £58.8bn by 2025, meeting a previous pledge by the government to restore funding for pupils up to the age of 16 back to 2010 levels in real terms.

In the most dramatic rebuke of the US News & World Report’s colleges and universities rankings to date, Yale and Harvard announced on Wednesday they will stop participating in the magazine’s law school rankings, citing frustrations with the list’s methodology.

“The US News rankings are profoundly flawed – they disincentivize programs that support public interest careers, champion need-based aid and welcome working-class students into the profession,” Heather Gerkin, dean of Yale Law School, wrote in a statement on Wednesday.
