Again, Taraba varsity staff stage peaceful protest over unpaid allowances

Activities at the Taraba State University (TSU) were on Tuesday temporarily brought to a halt as the university’s branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) embarked on a peaceful protest.

ASUU alleges gang-up against public education

A branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in Adamawa State has alleged ‘an evil gang-up’ against public education in Nigeria, saying the Federal Government is frittering golden opportunities to resolve contentions in the education sector.

The Chairman of the Modibbo Adama University (MAU) Yola chapter of ASUU, El-Maude Jibreel Gambo who on Tuesday alleged “crass neglect” of public education, accused the Minister of Labour, Dr Chris Ngige of waging a personal vendetta against ASUU.

Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has formally renamed Tai Solarin College of Education (TASCE), Omu-Ajose, as Sikiru Adetona College of Education, Science and Technology (SACOETEC), with a pledge that the institution would remain a college of education with the mandate to groom middle-level teachers for the educational system of the country.

Abiodun, who disclosed this during the formal unveiling of SACOETEC, said that his administration would make the institution envy of others in the country.

Ofsted downgrades hundreds of outstanding schools in England

Most of the outstanding schools in England inspected last year have been downgraded, according to a report from the schools watchdog.

Some of them had not been looked at for 15 years and many would have experienced “significant change” such as new head teachers, Ofsted said.
