Reps approve bill to establish almajiri education commission

The House of Representatives has passed for second reading, a bill seeking to establish a ‘National Commission for Almajiri Education and Out-of-School Children’.

A member of the House from Sokoto State, Shehu Kakale, and 18 others sponsored the bill.

Ghana’s Consul General in Lagos, Samata Gifty Bukari, has said for African countries to develop, more efforts should be put into education, with collaborative efforts of citizens.

Bukari, who stated this during a familiarisation visit to Ferscoat Schools, a Ghanaian-owned institution in Ipaja, Lagos, noted that educating the youth is imperative for national development.

Between from March 27 to 29 2017, I attended a Conference which took place at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs, Victoria Island, Lagos. One of the Speakers at that Conference was Ahmed Akanbi, a Muslim parent and a Lagos-based legal practitioner.

Midway in his presentation, Ahmed did something which shocked most of the Conference attendees.

Group links Nigerian graduates from UK with employers

A firm, Graduate Guidance Group (GGG) in partnership with 12 universities in the United Kingdom, has organised a talent hunt event in Lagos aimed at linking Nigerian graduates with prospective employers.

The event, tagged, #NGTalentUKEducated2022, serves as a platform for employers to meet Nigerian talents, who have acquired international experience through UK education and willing to apply their skills in building their careers.

Foundation donates hostel to alma mater

A non-governmental organisation, Tope Dare Foundation (TDF), has donated a 100-bed hostel to the Ondo State government and students of St. Peter’s Unity Secondary School, Akure, as part of efforts to support learning and boost education.

Writing materials were also distributed to the students and drugs to the school clinic. Also, laptops were donated to best female and male students by friends and associates of the foundation.

CU leads Nigerian varsities in five subject rankings

Covenant University (CU), Ota, has emerged the only private university in the league tables, featuring prominently in Business and Economics, Social Sciences, Computer Science, Engineering and Physical Sciences at the just released Times Higher Education (THE) 2023 Subject Rankings.

Analysis of the ranking showed that the university is leading other institutions in the country on these five subject disciples. Chairman of Nigerian Universities Ranking Advisory Committee (NURAC), Prof Emeritus Peter Okebukola, who announced this in a statement, said it was a cheery news for institutions in Nigeria, coming on the heels of impressive ranking of 12 Nigerian universities.

Aderogba wins Inner Wheel school debate

Sixteen-year-old Senior Secondary School 3 of Isolo Secondary School, Isolo, Aderogba Adenike, has won an inter-school debate organised to commemorate the International Day of the Girl Child by Inner Wheel District 912.

At the event which involved seven schools, Oyeniyi Boluwafe of Isolo Comprehensive Senior High School emerged first runner-up, while Imoh Chidera Favour of Matori Senior Grammar School was second runner-up.

Wife of the vice president, Mrs Dolapo Osinbajo has laid the foundation of the N440 million worth Alumni Science Centre of the Ibadan International School Ibadan (ISI), an initiative of the alumni association of the school.
