JAMB CAUTIONS TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS
AGAINST BACKDOOR ADMISSIONS
The Registrar off the Join Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Prof Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, has cautioned tertiary institutions against back door admissions The Registrar, who was represented by the Akwa State Coordinator, Mrs. Grace Olima-Williams, gave this admonition at the 3rd Registry Distinguished Lecture at the Akwa Ibom State University held recently at the Main Auditorium of the University.
In his goodwill message, the Registrar urged the University to avail itself of the provisions of the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) to conduct its admissions.
According to him, CAPS is an automated platform for conducting seamless, transparent and credible admissions as it gives the institutions autonomy while providing other stakeholders opportunity to monitor the process.
The Registrar congratulated the University on its achievements in the past few years while advising it against any act that could undermine the integrity of the institution.
Earlier, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Nse U. Essien, and the Registrar Dr. Ebi Eno-Ibanga, in their presentations, stated that the event was carefully put together to recognise and honour the achievements of the institution in the past few years as well as enlighten and broaden the horizon of every participant, specially the Registry staff, on the modern trends in the management of universities.
NANS NAMES OLOYEDE GUEST SPEAKER, REVIEWER OF NEW CONSTITUTION
As a mark of recognition for his laudable contributions to the education sector, he National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has named the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, as the reviewer of its new constitution and the Guest Speaker at its public presentation next year.
Furthermore, NANS also stated that its Senate would also induct Prof. Oloyede as a Life Member and Trustee during the official presentation of the new NANS Constitution.
The NANS Senate President, Comrade Attah Felix Nnalue, dropped this hint when he led a delegation of the Students’ Union body to the Board’s National Headquarters, Bwari, on Friday, 2nd December,2022.
According to Comrade Nnalue, NANS chose Prof.Oloyede because of his “pedigree, tremendous impact and stewardship in the development and advancement of Nigerian students.” The umbrella body of Nigeria Students also commended Prof. Oloyede for his role in advancing the discussion on education to higher levels. In the same vein, the body acknowledged the Prof. Oloyede-led management for the unprecedented transformation of JAMB and his efforts at restoring sanity to the conduct of public examinations and the admission process into tertiary institutions in the country.
The Senate President disclosed that the student body appreciated the salient efforts made by the Registrar to address the Prolonged ASUU strike in his response, the Registrar of JAMB, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, appreciated the student body for finding him worthy of such a responsibility. While accepting to honour their invitation, he asked them to give him sufficient notice once the date for the President, Comrade, Attah Felix Nnalue (middle) presenting a letter to the Registrar of JAMB, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede.
PROF. EGBEWOLE COMMENDS JAMB FOR SIMPLIFYING SERVICES FOR CANDIDATES
The newly appointed vice-chancellor of the University of Ilorin Prof. Abdulwahab Egbewole, SAN, has commended the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) for simplifying its various services for ease of access by candidates.
He made this call during a courtesy visit made to his office by the Director, Ilorin Zonal Office, Alh. Aliyu Kolawole Jibril, to congratulate him on his appointment as the 12th Vice Chancellor of the University.
Receiving the Director and some of his top management staff, who were on the entourage, the Vice Chancellor pledged his unalloyed support to the Board and used the opportunity of the visit to commend the Board for easing the stress that candidates go through when they are accessing its various services, such as applications for programme change, among others.
The Vice Chancellor insisted that he is aware of the Board’s policy to discontinue the ‘ condonement’ of irregular admissions, hence the need for the Board to continue to make the process as simple as possible to clear the backlogs.
The Vice Chancellor also commended the administration of Prof. Oloyede for the various laudable innovations he had midwifed in the Board.
He stated that the innovations had positively impacted the operations of the Board as well as the tertiary education system general.
The courtesy call on Prof. Abdulwahab Egbewole, SAN, was aimed at enhancing and strengthening the relationship between the Board and the institution as well as apprising the new Vice-Chancellor of the latest policies of the Board especially those bordering on the new advisories on admissions.
On the entourage of the Director were Mrs. Sherifat Balogun, Head of Administration and Alh. Hassan Lawal, the Public Relations Officer.
COMMISSIONER PAYS COURTESY VISIT TO ABIA STATE OFFICE
The Abia State Commissioner for Post-Basic Education, Barr. Chijioke Mark, has paid a courtesy visit to Abia State Office of the Board in Umuahia.
According to the Commissioner, the visit was to seek closer ties with the the Board, especially in those areas bordering on its core competences. In the same vein, he utilised the opportunity afforded by the visit to thank the Management of the Board for the reading texts it recently donated to students of public secondary schools in the State.
He informed the State Coordinator that plans were ongoing by the State Government to upgrade the Government Technical College, Aba, to a Mega Computer Centre through a World Bank Sponsored Programme, adding that the project when completed, would also double as a centre for the conduct of the Board’s examinations in the city.
Furthermore, Barr. Mark commended the Management of the Board for the series of innovative strategies it had deployed in recent times to reposition the four decade-old examination body solicited more robust collaboration between the State and the Board.
In his response, the State Coordinator, Mr. Johnson Adebi y i, expressed appreciation to the Commissioner for the visit. He briefed the Commissioner on the newly-constructed Professional Test Centre (PTC) by the Board at Okoko Item.
He added that the PTC, when operational, is expected to serve candidates from three Local Government Areas bordering the PTC namely: Arochukwu, Ohafia and Bende.
He stressed that it is the expected volume of envisaged traffic to the PTC that had prompted the Board to establish an outpost in the area.
He stressed further that the new PTC would obviate the need for candidates to visit the Board’s State Office in Umuahia to transact their business. Mr. Adebi y i also conduc ted the Commissioner round the State Office with a stop at the Board’s Professional Registration Centre (PRC), Umuahia, to witness, at first hand, how the various requests by candidates are being processed.
In his closing remarks, the State Coordinator assured the Commissioner of the commitment of the Board to the provisions of efficient service delivery in the State.
JAMB DONATES READING TEXTS TO SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN ONDO STATE
In furtherance of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives across the country, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), has donated a total of six thousand, nine hundred and thirty-eight (6,938) copies of reading texts to public secondary schools in Ondo State.
Handing the reading texts to the Permanent Secretary, Ondo State Ministry of Education, Mrs. F.A. Adegoke, for onward distribution to the target group, the Ondo State Coordinator, Mr. Gbenga Akintola, who was represented by the Head of the Matriculation and Monitoring Division, Mrs. Eunice Eleokwuihia, said the gesture was to foster the reading culture among students.
In her words, “The Board, through this initiative, wishes to compliment the efforts of the State Government towards inculcating a sound reading culture in our secondary school students as well as improve on their communication skills.”
In her response, the Permanent Secretary expressed appreciation to the Board for the gesture, which, according to her, underscored the deep love of the Board for the Nigerian youth. She added that the initiative would go a long way towards keeping the youths busy while reducing their addiction to social media. She promised prompt distribution of the donated materials.
