Develop entrepreneurial mindset, Caleb tells graduands

Eminent personalities at the 12th convocation of Caleb University, Imota, Lagos, have advised the graduands to have an entrepreneurial mindset and be creative.

The University’s Information, Media and Publication Specialist, Mr Olawale Adekoya, said the three-day ceremony, titled, ‘Digital disruptions, financial inclusion, startups and the challenge of youth creativity,’ was now restructured to hold during Founder’s Week.

The Pro-Chancellor, Prof. Sunday Ajayi, who extolled the virtues of the Visitor and Founder, Dr. Oladega Adebogun, for his vision of establishing a world-class institution like Caleb University, praised the graduands for raising the bar.

UNILAG bars admission into two courses

The University of Lagos has said there will be no admission into Biochemistry and Petroleum & Gas Engineering for 2023.

The Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination and Direct Entry.

In an interview with The PUNCH, Public Relations Officer, UNILAG, Mrs Joke Alaga said, “We can’t accommodate those two courses right now and it is for those currently buying UTME form.”

Critical thinking questions will curb exam malpractices — UI

The University of Ibadan has said reasoning-based (critical thinking) questions will help to solve problems of cramming and examination malpractices among learners.

Speaking during the 513th inaugural lecture of UI, A professor of Science Education and Educational Assessment at the Institute of Education, University of Ibadan, Gbenga Adewale, during his lecture titled, ‘Windows without doors: Making schools effective through assessment,’ called for a review of the assessment methods in basic and senior secondary systems of education

Adewale advised that the type of assessment needed should be the one that did not demand facts but those that encouraged critical thinking.

International Day Of Education: Ondo Recruits 1,200 Teachers

The Ondo state government on Tuesday said no fewer than 1,200 teachers have been recruited in the state to fill existing critical vacancies in Public Primary Schools.

The Chairman of Ondo State Universal Basic Education Board, Rt Hon Victor Olabimtan, who disclosed this while speaking on the celebration of world education day, said the present administration in the state will continue to do everything necessary to improve the standard of education in the state.

Parents Protest Over 300 Percent Hike In Students School Fees, Demand Sacking Of FUL VC

A group under the aegis of Parents of students of Federal University Lokoja on Tuesday called for the immediate removal of the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University Lokoja, Prof. Olayemi Akinwumi for what they described arbitrary hike in the student’s school fees without recourse for the current economic situation in the country.

The group who protest vehemently carrying placards of various inscriptions said the protest would continue until the management of the university reverse itself over the increment.

Out-Of-School Children: Ogun Govt To Clamp Down On Illegal And Unapproved Private Schools

The Ogun State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Professor Abayomi Arigbagbu, has disclosed that the Ministry will be clamping down on illegal and unapproved private schools whose learners are not captured by the government for proper provision and accountability, as part of an effort to tackle the challenge of out-of-school children.

Arigbagbu made this known in Abeokuta, on Tuesday, while receiving the new executive of the Association of Primary School Headteachers of Nigeria (AOPSHON), in his office in Abeokuta.

He stated that it was mandatory for all private schools operating in the State to register with the government for them to be carried along with the policies needed for them to be successful in their operations.

‘FUTA student didn’t transact on our platform’

Carbon MicroFinance Bank has faulted media reports that a 300-level student of the Federal University of Technology (FUTA), Olona Emmanuel Babajide, committed suicide because he was debited without successful transaction on its platform.

The bank said the deceased didn’t carry out any transaction on its platform in recent times.

A statement by the bank on Monday reads: “Our attention has been drawn to media reports on the incident involving a 300-level student of the Federal University of Technology, Akure Mr. Olona Emmanuel Babajide, who was said to have committed suicide at his residence in the Aule Area of Akure, the Ondo State capital.

“We are deeply saddened to learn about this incident, and we very well acknowledge and share in the pain and grief of his family and loved ones.
