Methodist High School, Arigbajo holds 58th anniversary
The 58th-anniversary celebrations of the Methodist High School, Arigbajo, Ogun State, holds from today to Saturday, January 28, 2023, at the school premises in Arigbajo.
Since its establishment in 1965, the school has been one of the foremost secondary schools in the country and has produced great Nigerians in all the areas of human endeavours.
According to a statement issued by the National President, Methodist High School Old Students Association (MEHSOSAI), Mr. Olasunkanmi Sheyic Oyegbami, the three-day event, tagged: “Celebration Of Love and Unity”, kicks off today with quiz and debate competition, open mic competition, debate and cultural display.

ECOWAS ambassador partners with LASU on youth development
The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Youth Council (EYC) is set to train 1, 000 students of Lagos State University (LASU) in leadership development through the National Youth Leadership Development Symposium.
The council stated this during a courtesy visit to LASU Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji – Bello.
The group, led by 19-year-old Emmanuel Agida, who was appointed ambassador by the ECOWAS Youth Council in April 2022, said the programme is part of EYC’s effort to train young Nigerians in the act of quality leadership and mold them into leaders capable of bringing necessary change in the country.

Presidential Amnesty Programme debunks cancellation of scholarship scheme
The Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP) has dismissed rumours trending on social media platforms on outright cancellation of its scholarship scheme.
In a statement by Special Assistant, Media, PAP, Freston Akpor, the body said the PAP had not at any time announced the cancellation of the ongoing scholarship scheme to eligible beneficiaries.
Recall that an official statement issued by the PAP on January 6, 2023, emphasised that its scholarship scheme has temporarily been placed on hold owing to financial constraints occasioned by the huge debt profile associated with the formal education component of the programme.
966 graduate as Caleb varsity honours Momoh, Alake at 12th convocation
Vice Chancellor, Caleb University, Imota, Prof. Nosa-Owens Ibie, has assured students that the institution is poised to prepare them for the future of work.
Owens-Ibie, who spoke at the 12th convocation ceremony of the institution, also urged them to make good use of the opportunities given to them.
The professor of Mass Communication urged the graduating students to put into practice all they have learnt, assuring that the sky is the starting point for them.

Caleb International School donates books to celebrate Education Day
Caleb International School (CIS), Surulere, Lagos State, has donated books to pupils of Dedeke Nursery and Primary School, Surulere, to support them towards achieving quality education.

Parents protest over 300 per cent hike in school fees by FUL, VC, demands immediate reversal
• Says management insensitive to economic realities in Nigeria
Parents of students of Federal University Lokoja (FUL), Kogi State, have called for immediate removal of the Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Olayemi Akinwumi, over what they described as arbitrary hike in the students’ school fees without recourse to the current economic situation in the country.
The group, who carried placards of various inscriptions, said the protest would continue until the management of the university reverses itself over the increment.
The leader of the group, Moses Abraham, who made the call while addressing newsmen in Lokoja, said the increment which is almost 300 per cent, was orchestrated to deny parents and the masses the opportunity of acquiring university education for their children.
Dansol High School holds 15th inter-house sports competition
To boost students’ competitive spirit and nurture talents, Dansol High School, Ikeja, has held the 15th edition of its yearly Inter-House Sport competition.
Speaking at the event held at Agege Stadium, the school Administrator, Olubunmi Falade, said the school places premium on sport activities and encourages students to showcase their talents in sport.
Falade, who noted that this year’s competition was the first time since COVID-19 that the school would hold inter-house sport, said it is an event they always look forward to and is seen as opportunity for students to find expression through sport.

Group supports underprivileged girls with learning tools
• Targets 50,000 girls across Nigeria
As part of efforts to address the challenges confronting the girl-child and enroll them in school, a non-governmental organisation, Evolve, in collaboration with Polaris Bank, are set to impact over 50,000 underprivileged girls.
The group said the move is part of its commitment to address the problem of global warming through intervention in girl-child education in Nigeria.

OAU celebrates scholar, Prof Adediran as he retires
The management of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile Ife, Osun State, has hailed Professor Abiodun Adebayo Adediran as a diligent scholar and excellent researcher, as he retires from active service in the university.
Adediran, who is Professor of History, a seasoned historian and university administrator, started his academic career as a Graduate Assistant in the Department of History of the University of Ife in 1976 and attained the professorship cadre in 1993.

Stakeholders must complement govt’s efforts in education sector, says Rector
Dr. Abubakar Abdul Dzukogi is the outgoing Rector, Federal Polytechnic Bida, Niger State. He joined the service of the Polytechnic as lecturer III in 1984 and rose through the ranks to become Chief Lecturer in 2005.
He became the Acting Dean, School of Applied Art and Sciences in 2005, Director, Academic Planning Unit in 2006, Director, Directorate of Continuing Education in 2008 and Deputy Rector in 2011. He became the Rector in 2015. Dzukogi spoke with AHMADU BABA IDRIS on his seven years tenure and how he has led the institution to enviable heights.

‘YABATECH Rector Set To Bow Out After Successful Tenure’
All is set for the rector of Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH), Mr Obafemi Omokungbe, to officially bow out of office on Sunday, Jan 29, 2023 after concluding a five-year impactful service in the college.

MAPOLY Gets New Registrar, Polytechnic Librarian
The Governing Council of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta has approved the appointments of Mrs Olubunmi Olubukola Elewodalu and Mrs Basirat Olayinka Akintunde as the registrar and polytechnic librarian respectively.
Both appointments took a retrospective effect from Monday, 22 December, 2022 for a single non-renewable term of five years.
By the appointment, Mrs Elewodalu became the sixth and second female registrar and the first to hail from the Remo region of Ogun State.

Final-Year FUD Student Converts Sachet Water Waste To Kerosene, Diesel
Zainab Bilyamin, a final-year student of the Department of Chemistry, Federal University Dutse (FUD), has succeeded in converting sachet water polythene waste into hybrid fuel (kerosene and diesel) through her final-year research project.
It was gathered that the fuel produced from the polythene waste has similar properties as normal kerosene and diesel, as it was used to light a kerosene lamp and to power a pumping machine successfully.
Bilyamin’s final-year project is entitled ‘Conversion of low-density polyethylene and mixed low-density polyethylene with polyethylene terephthalate into fuel’.

Experts Harp On Science, Innovation As Panacea For Security, Pandemic Challenges
THE vice chancellor of Delta University, Agbor, Delta State, Professor Chinye Chiemeke, has said that if Nigeria must improve economically and become a leading nation in the global space, it must prioritise the integration of science and innovation into its national socioeconomic development processes.
