The founder of Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, Abdulraheem Oladimeji, has spoken about how the university was established Oladimeji, who had no formal education, said his investment in the education sector was divine as his previous plan was to establish a plastic company The businessman spoke about how one of his sons dreamt of him establishing an Islamic university while in Saudi Arabia for Hajj in 1994.

WASCAL In FUTMinna Celebrates 10th Year Anniversary

The Vice Chancellor, Federal University of Technology Minna, Professor Faruk Adamu Kuta has expressed appreciation to the German government in conjunction with the country’s Institute of Research for establishing and funding of a Research Centre: “West African Science Service Centre on Climate Change and Adopted Land Use” (WASCAL) in the university since 2012 till date.

The Vice Chancellor gave  the commendation in his remarks during the commemoration of the 10th anniversary celebration of the programme last weekend at the Conference Hall of the university at the Gidan Kwano main Campus in Minna.

IDE2023: Niger School Benefits From Foundation’s Teacher Bank Project

Over 400 students of Government Day Secondary School in New Bwari, Tafa local government area of Niger State are currently benefitting from the Teacher Bank Project of the Restored Heart Foundation.

The project which provides extra teachers to support the day-to-day academic activities of the school is aimed at addressing the lack of access to quality teachers and as a result, education in Nigeria’s rural communities for a period of one year.

UniIorin appeals to students as fuel crisis takes toll on varsity transportation

The nationwide fuel crisis has taken its toll on students and staff of the University of Ilorin as they are confronted with transportation challenges to and from the main campus.

Reacting to the development in a statement on Wednesday by Kunle Akogun, the Director, Corporate Affairs, of the institution, the management expressed pain over the transportation hardship the students and staff go through daily.

The statement appealed to all for continuous understanding, explaining that the factors responsible for the present situation are not peculiar to the University of Ilorin.

Hygiene Awareness: GGCL to Reach 10,000 Females in 2023

The Green Girl Company Limited (GGCL) has announced plans to sensitise 10,000 young girls this year, by creating awareness and self-esteem on menstrual hygiene practices.
The company said it is determined to provide the resources and opportunities necessary to improve the social-economic lives of girls and women in Nigeria through its social impact intervention programme, Green Dignity Kit (GDK).

Tompolo Donates N30m Single Seater Desks as Maritime University Matriculates Students

The President of Tompolo Foundation, Chief​ Government Ekpemupolo (alias Tompolo) has donated 458 single-seater desks worth N30 million to students of the Nigeria Maritime University (NMU), Okerenkoko in Warri South West council area of Delta.

The Executive Secretary of the foundation, Dr Paul Bebenimibo, who represented Chief Ekpemupolo, made the donation during the combined matriculation ceremony for 2019/2020, 2020/2021 and 2021/2022 academic sessions.

NGO to Tackle Global Warming Via Girl-child Education

Evolve, a non-profit organisation that focuses on girl-child education, in partnership with Polaris Bank, has reiterated​ its commitment towards curbing global warming through intervention in girl-child education in Nigeria.

Inaugurated in 2020 to address the global challenge of climate change through the education of underprivileged girls, the Evolve programme will impact over 50,000 direct beneficiaries and 200,000 indirect beneficiaries in the next five years.

UNILAG Graduates 2,251, Celebrates 60th Anniversary​

It was celebration all the way, as the University of Lagos recently held its 53rd convocation ceremonies, which witnessed 2,251 graduating students being conferred with degrees made up of 67 postgraduate diplomas, 2119 masters and 65 doctorate degrees.

Dr Ahmed Amoo Yinusa, one​ of the graduands, who obtained his PhD in Mechanical Engineering, was called out to receive his award for the overall best PhD thesis and best in science. It was no mean feat.

MTN Foundation Revamps 15 School Labs, Inaugurates Three at Government Secondary School Owerri

The MTN Foundation recently inaugurated the newly-renovated science laboratory at Government Secondary School, Owerri. The project, part of the second phase of the foundation’s Science and Technology Laboratory initiative, is designed to improve the teaching standards and learning outcomes of science subjects in public secondary schools.

Following the set criteria for the nomination, four secondary schools (Government Secondary School Owerri; St Augustine College, Igbuzor; St. Aquinas College, Akure and Queens College, Lagos) emerged beneficiaries of the second phase of the Science and Technology Laboratory initiative. Each school received full renovation of their Chemistry, Physics and Biology laboratories, including; installation of laboratory furniture, solar-powered borehole and alternative power solution, supply of laboratory equipment and consumables and training of laboratory staff.

Caleb University Urges Graduands to Make Difference​ in the World

The Proprietor, Caleb University, Imota, Lagos, Dr Oladega Adebogun, has urged graduating students of the institution to be the difference in the world.

Adebogun stated this at the university’s 12th convocation/founder’s day ceremony for the conferment of honorary doctorate and postgraduate degrees, as well as diplomas.

The convocation began on January 19, with the conferment of first degrees and the presentation of prizes.

Kashere varsity, UNICEF move to promote social, behavioral change

The United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) and the Federal University of Kashere (FUK) in Gombe State have signed a memorandum of understanding to promote the study of communication for social and behavioural change.

According to the Country Director of UNICEF, Mrs Christian Munduate, with the MoU signed on Tuesday at FUK, communication experts will be produced to create social balance and address the issues of negative narrative in society.

TETFUND: Buhari commissions facilities worth over N2 billion at NDA, AFIT, others

President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday commissioned Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) sponsored annual intervention projects at the Nigeria Defence Academy (NDA), the Airforce Institute of Technology (AFIT), Kaduna Polytechnic and Kaduna State University (KASU).

President Buhari who was represented by the Chairman, Senate Committee on Defence, Senator Aliyu Wamako, noted that projects at NDA gulped over N685 million, AFIT over N604 million, KASU over N491 million, and Kaduna Polytechnic over N450 million for the 2020/2021 annual intervention.
