The Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Kayode Adebowale, has charged students of Open Distance Learning (ODL) of the university to be good ambassadors of distance learning, saying the UI model of Open Distance Learning is ‘parity of esteem’.
Adebowale said, by this, learners are entitled to many of the privileges enjoyed by students in the face-to-face mode of studies, interact with the same academic facilitators who teach the other students, and subsequently earn the same certificate.

Gombe state Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya presenting letters of appointment to newly recruited teachers.
In a move to rescue all the government-owned schools and provide employment opportunities for the teeming graduate unemployed youths, Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya recently granted approval to the Teachers’ Service Commission (TSC) for the recruitment of 1,000 fresh teachers.
After the employment processes were completed and the teachers employed, the Governor, on Saturday, performed the official symbolic presentation of appointment letters to the 1000 secondary school teachers.

The Anambra State Government on Friday said it has established schools in 283 markets across the state.

Lagos to divert traffic for students rally
The Lagos State Government has advised motorists around the old Onikan Stadium on Lagos Island to plan their movement as traffic will be restricted for the students’ rally scheduled to hold on Friday (today).
The rally was planned by student representatives from all tertiary institutions in the state to support the re-election of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and his deputy, Dr Obafemi Hamzat.
The state Commissioner for Transportation, Dr Frederic Oladeinde, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, adding that officers of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority will regulate traffic flow.

Monarch asks alumni to rescue public schools
The Deji of Akureland, Oba Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi, has expressed concern over the deplorable state of public schools across the country, saying alumni associations across the country were not doing enough to assist the government in the areas of the infrastructural development of their alma mater.
The monarch said there was a need for old students to contribute to the development of education in the country by giving back to their former schools.

Kwara school owners protest multiple taxation
Members of the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools in Kwara State on Thursday staged a peaceful protest over what they described as exorbitant and multiple taxation by the state Internal Revenue Service.
The group, which has about 3,000 members, marched to the Ministry of Education, Ilorin to register their grievances with the government.
The Association led by the State President of NAPPS, Dr Temitope Ajibola, said that it members rejected recent charges, levies and taxes on private school owners and businesses in the state by the KWIRS because it was exploitative.

Greensprings School, Lagos, has said its newly introduced programme, ‘Service Learning,’ will teach learners workplace and social skills.

A non-profit organisation, Evolve and Polaris Bank have stated that education and youth empowerment are the most significant indicators of social progress.
Evolve programme, which focuses on girl-child education, was unveiled in 2020 to address the global challenge of climate change through the education of underprivileged girls.
It was designed to impact over 50,000 direct beneficiaries and 200,000 indirect beneficiaries in the next five years.
