Definition
Social studies can be also known as social sciences. It’s a field which deals with human behaviour, relationships, resources, and institutions’. Specific studies that are studied in school coursework include geography, anthropology, economics, history, political science and civics.
History
Social studies was first introduced and developed in the united state of America, after the Second World War in the year 1945, and later spread to Europe. After the World wars, it was defined as an important course relevant to the understanding of man, his environment and his problems.
Social studies were first introduced into Nigerian school system on an experimental basic at the Aiyetoro Comprehensive High School, Ogun state, in Nigeria through the United State of America Agency for International Development USAID.
