Stakeholders converge for edtech education conference in Lagos Friday

As a way to make teaching and learning more engaging and results-oriented in Nigerian schools and Africa by extension, some stakeholders in the education sector including the immediate past Commissioner for Education in Lagos State, Mrs Folasade Adefisayo and the Associate Dean of Faculty of Education, Queen’s University, Canada, Dr Peter Chin, would be sharing their thoughts and perspectives on how best educators in Africa could explore technology and innovations to achieve the dream.

They would do these at an education conference organised by Edves, an edtech company in Lagos, on Friday, June 2nd.

Muslim society condemns OAU recruitment rumours

Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria (MSSN), on Monday, described the ongoing recruitment of Academic Teaching Staff exercise in the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) Ile-Ife as “bias” and “unacceptable to society”.

The group made this known in a statement signed by the state area unit leaders, AbdulJeleel A. ARIKEWUYO, AbdulWakil O. O AKANNI and Saheed Ayodele Rajib, unit leader, union secretary and public relations officer respectively and made available to newsmen in Osogbo

Poetry contest will boost students’ creativity – Library

The Zacchaeus Onumba Dibiaezue Memorial Libraries has said poetry competitions will boost creativity and discipline in higher institution students.

Speaking at a press conference to herald the grand finale of ZODML  poetry challenge, titled, ‘Motherhood,’  chairman, ZODML, Ifeoma Esiri,  said that the students who joined the challenge would be exposed to good literature.

UI holds admission screening

The University of Ibadan Distance Learning Centre, on Monday, announced that the centre would, on Friday, June 2, conduct an admission screening exercise.

The screening would be for the first batch of applicants who had sat for the institution’s post-UTME examination and obtained a minimum of 40% and have changed their Mode of Studies to Open Distance eLearning mode of the institution.

Expert tasks varsities on job creation

A former Provost of the College of Agriculture,  Akure,  Dr Samson Odedina, has called on tertiary institutions in the country to prepare their students for jobs and wealth creation in agriculture after graduation.

Odedina,  who is also the Commissioner for Agriculture in Ogun State, stated this in a public lecture he delivered at the Achievers University,  Owo,  Ondo State. The lecture was titled ‘Agricultural Development and food security in the 21st Century Nigeria: challenges and prospects.’

Yabatech alumni plan engagement with govt

The alumni of the Yaba College of Technology, old Secondary School, Lagos, has said it will engage the Federal Government on how to harness the talents of diaspora Nigerians for development.

A statement by the group said the alumni include mainly those within the country and others in the diaspora, especially those who concluded their studies in the school between 1969 and 1973 and are well experienced in business, civil service, manufacturing, and entrepreneurship.
