Vice Chancellor of the Dominican University (DU), Ibadan, Oyo State, Professor Hyginus Ekwuazi, has revealed that the institution is committed to the mental and physical development of staff and students.

The VC, in a statement made available to the Nigerian Tribune on Tuesday, spoke during a ‘Walk for a Healthy Nation’ organised at the weekend in Lagos, noting that the exercise which was attended by stakeholders in the system focused on promoting healthy living among the public.

You have been charting the course of this institution for four years, how has the journey been so far?

I will say that it has not been easy but I give God the glory. When you are sitting on a hot seat like this, you experience a lot of things; the good, the bad and the ugly. You meet people from all walks of life including the students. Currently, in Adeleke University, we have a total of 4,000 students from virtually every part of the country. Here, we see every student as a raw material meant to be transformed into a finished product and holistic individual. To achieve this, we are referring to three key points – godliness, firmness and fairness. Most importantly, we expect each student in the course of their study, to have been imparted in the light of the three ‘H’s; the head, the heart and the hands. The head represents learning, which is the academic aspect; the heart speaks of holiness and devotion to God and the hand has to do with entrepreneurial skill.

UI lecturers develop innovation to improve hearing

THREE lecturers from the University of Ibadan (UI) have developed a technology known as ‘Chord Hearing Device’ designed to improve hearing.

The auditory-aid technology was developed by a team of UI lecturers led by Adebolajo Adeyemo. Other members of the team are Bolanle Oladejo and Oluwasola Adeniyi.

OOU will continue to produce first-rate quality graduates — VC Agboola

The Vice Chancellor of Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago-Iwoye, Professor Ayodeji Agboola, has promised that the state-owned institution, known for its academic excellence, will continue to produce first-rate quality graduates during his tenure.

Agboola made this statement on Wednesday during his robing ceremony as the 11th Vice Chancellor of the institution, which took place at the OGD Lecture Hall in Ago-Iwoye.

Ejikeme Joy: 16-Year-Old Daughter of Okada Rider Who Emerged Overall Best Student in UTME Gets N3m Scholarship.

For her academic excellence, a young girl has just been awarded a three million naira (N3 million) scholarship by Innoson Vehicles.

Ejikeme Joy, an indigene of Enugu state, who resides in Nnewi with her father, an Okada rider, emerged as the overall best student in the UTME for the 2023 academic year.

2023 Admissions: JAMB Gives Update on Cut-Off Marks for University, Polytechnic and College of Education

Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has given an update on cut-off marks for universities and other tertiary institutions.

The examination body revealed that the cut-off for universities and other tertiary institutions in the country will be decided on June 24 JAMB added that the decision will be made during a meeting with all heads of tertiary institutions and regulatory bodies.

TCRN exploring ways to strengthen collaborations with JAMB – Registrar

The Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) has said it is exploring ways to strengthen collaborations with the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) to boost service delivery to Nigerians.

The move was announced in a statement by the Registrar of TRCN, Prof Josiah Ajiboye, on Monday while on inspection at the new Computer Based Test (CBT) facilities built by JAMB in the Kaduna metropolis.

Nigerian students in UK grew fivefold – British envoy

The British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Richard Montgomery, said, on Wednesday, that the number of Nigerians travelling to the United Kingdom via study route had multiplied five times in the last three years.

Montgomery explained that his country’s decision banning international students from bringing family members with them to the UK starting 2024 was to avoid overburdening the country’s housing infrastructure and to control the inflow of migrants.

An NGO known as “The Cognito Project” has made a case for the inculcation of sexual reproductive health education in school curriculum.

Mr Jang Charles, Research, Monitoring and Evaluation Officer of the NGO, made the call on Wednesday in Abuja at a workshop organised by KASA smart advocacy campaign project.

Renowned gender rights organisations, under the aegis of Women Advocates Research and Documentation Centre, raised concern on Wednesday over the attacks on schools and learning facilities in Nigeria by terrorists, kidnappers and bandits, saying responses by the governments have been poor and inadequate.

The organisation, therefore, recommended the implementation of the Safe School Declaration in order to ensure full compliance and safety of children in schools across the country.

Pupils, staff members of Estate Primary school, Ikeja, have extolled Lagos Imperial Lions club, District 402B2, for donating six toilets facility to improve sanitation in the school.

The beneficiaries said memories of recent visit of the club would remain indelible in their minds, as they were elated to witness the commissioning of the facilities.

During the commissioning, President of the club, Olumide Adeyemi, recalled that the school with over 600 pupils lacked such a facility.

Ukrainian refugee children in German schools are falling behind their German peers because of language difficulties, the outgoing president of the German Teachers’ Association said.

The association president, Heinz-Peter Meidinger, has complained about problems integrating some Ukrainian students in German schools, blaming insufficient efforts on the part of Germany’s federal states.
