‘Investment in agriculture will create massive opportunities’

A scholar in Animal Breeding and Genetics and former staff of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Nigeria, Dr Olaiwola Ogunpaimo, has called on the Federal Government to invest massively in agriculture.

Ogunpaimo who delivered a virtual lecture on ‘Harnessing business opportunities in Agriculture, utilising local and international opportunities,’ at the Conference of Bola Ahmed Tinubu National Support Groups, said the unemployment and poverty levels in Nigeria would be solved with investment in agriculture.

Ogunpaimo insisted that with the type of hoe and cutlass means of farming that mostly dominated the Nigerian agricultural space, it might be difficult for the new administration to address the current unemployment and poverty levels.

Firm launches campaign against fake calculators

The distributor of CASIO calculators in Nigeria, SKLD Integrated Services Limited, has said it will stamp out counterfeit calculators in Nigeria.

Speaking at a dealers’ conference, held in Lagos State, General Manager, CASIO, Japan, Mr Koji Shinjo, explained that 33 per cent of the population used to counterfeit.

Edo govt offers automatic employment to LASU best-graduating student

The Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has offered recording-setting first-class law graduate, at the Lagos State University (LASU), Aminat Yusuf, who hails from Edo State, automatic employment in the state’s public service.

Yusuf emerged as the best-ever graduate at LASU with a 5.0 Cumulative Grade Point Average in the institution’s Law Degree Programme.

New York to Include Diwali – India’s festival of light – as public school holiday

New York City has announced its decision to include Diwali, the festival of lights, as an official public school holiday.

The Mayor of New York, Eric Adams made this announcement on Tuesday.

Adams noted that the decision was a significant step in response to the city’s recognition of the expanding South Asian and Indo-Caribbean communities within its diverse population.

11 Queen’s College pupils depart for robotic competition in Australia

Eleven students of Queen’s College, Lagos, are set to represent Nigeria at the First Lego League (FLL) Asia Pacific Open Championship in Sydney.

The students left Nigeria on Monday for Sydney, where they would participate in a robotics challenge starting June 29.

The students had, in 2021, clinched the first position in the Robotics National Competition, which qualified them to represent Nigeria in Greece for the FLL championship

However, they could not make it to Greece because of COVID-19 restrictions in Greece then.

The students had also 2022 secured the 2nd runner-up position in the Robotics National Competition which qualified them to represent the country in Brazil for the same championship, but they could not go.

‘How MTN ASAP Training Has Improved Knowledge Of Nigerian Teachers And Students’ – UNODC

The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime has revealed that the MTN ASAP Unplugged Prevention Programme has improved the knowledge of 80% of the teachers involved in the programme coordinated yearly to educate teachers and students on the right decisions to make when it comes to drug use.

Folusho Ajayi-Adelekan, UNODC’s National Programme Officer, disclosed this at the MTN ASAP Quiz Competition held in Abuja on Friday, June 23, 2023.

From a humble background to the teacher’s college where he earned a certificate as a Grade 2 teacher in the 1970s, the eagerness of Dr. Nasir Idris, former national president, Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), aka Kauran Gwandu, to serve his people continued to propel him further.
