The Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), Sonny Echono, has cried out after over 137 scholars sponsored abroad by the fund refused to return to Nigeria after completing their studies.

EDUCATIONTETFUND moves to suspend foreign scholarship


The Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND), Sonny Echono, has revealed that the fund will now focus on local scholarships and suspend the foreign scholarships.
Echono, while appearing at an investigative hearing organised by a House of Representatives ad hoc committee on Tuesday, said the current foreign exchange situation makes it impossible to continue the sponsorship of students overseas.

Gov Bago set to hike tuition fees of state-owned institutions.


The Niger State Government has disclosed plans to increase tuition fees at the state-owned tertiary institutions to adequately and effectively fund them.
The Permanent Secretary, Niger State Ministry of Tertiary Education, Science, and Technology, Dr Musa Abubakar Sadeeq, made the disclosure in an interview in Minna.

Kwara poly alumni raise alarm over institution’s land encroachment.


Kwara State Polytechnic Worldwide Alumni Association has called on Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq-led state government, relevant stakeholders and eminent alumni of the institution to take immediate action to address the issue of encroachment of the polytechnic land.

Speaking with journalists in Ilorin on Wednesday, the protem president of the association, Engineer Abu Salami, in the company of other members of the group, raised the alarm that over 51 per cent of the land had been encroached upon, while only six per cent was being currently utilized by the polytechnic.

Fuel Price hike: COEASU directs lecturers to go to work 2 days a week.


The College of Education Academic Staff Union, COEASU, has directed members to henceforth report to work for only two days a week, following fuel subsidy removal by the federal government.
The union which explained that life has been unbearable with members since the government’s action, insisted that members can only work two days a week until the government meets its demand for salary adjustment.

TETFUND to suspend foreign scholarships; blames CBN for forex crisis


The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) says consultations are ongoing to suspend foreign scholarships due to the rising exchange rate.
TETFUND executive secretary Sonny Echono disclosed this at a public hearing on alleged missing N2.3 trillion in TETFUND between 2011 to date, organised by an ad hoc committee of the House of Representatives.

Nigeria Police Academy to introduce Faculty of Education, diploma in police science.

The Commandant, Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, Kano, AIG Sadiq I. Abubakar, on Tuesday, hinted that arrangements have been concluded to add Faculty of Education in the course curriculum of the institution.

The Commandant who spoke to members of Kano state Correspondents’ Chapel, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), during an interactive session in his office also revealed that the Academy is making plans to offer Diploma and Certificate Courses on Police Science, most especially, forensic studies.

Labour Party Lawmaker Returns As Physics Teacher, Gives Reason For Action.


A Labour Party member, Hon. Mbachu Henry, representing Awka South Constituency I, has returned as a volunteer Physics teacher in his community public school.
In the letter sighted by Naija News, dated 13th July, the lawmaker wrote to the principal of Igwebuike Grammer School in Awka South in Anambra State requesting to teach as a volunteer instructor.
