Community Senior High School, Lekki, has emerged winner of the 2023 Tolaram Science Challenge (TSC), defeating Magbon Alade Senior Grammar School at the grand finale of the competition sponsored by the Lagos Free Zone (LFZ) Company.

The Tolaram Science Challenge is a yearly science-based competition for schools located within the Ibeju-Lekki axis of Lagos, where the Free Zone is situated. The competition is the flagship Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative of the company aimed at developing and promoting science education among students within the area.

Tackling menace of unqualified teachers in private schools.

Professor of Marketing, Lagos Business School (LBS), Pan Atlantic University, Lagos, Uchenna Uzo, has said that the informal markets in Nigeria are ready to scale up activities and become a major force in growing the nation’s economy.

At student leaders summit, youths urged to uphold, preserve African culture using tech.

As university students across Africa and the United Kingdom converged at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) for the third Umoja African student leaders network summit, the young scholars have been charged to uphold the uniqueness of African culture amidst technological advancement.

The summit, which marked the commencement of a week-long celebration of Nelson Mandela International Day, featured speakers from UNILAG; Stellenbosch University, University of Free State, Wits University and the University of Cape Town from South Africa.

Stakeholders chart path to tackling environmental challenges.

Nine inmates graduate at NOUN convocation in Rivers.

Nine inmates and two staff members of the Port Harcourt Maximum Correctional Centre havegraduated from the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN).
The inmates were the fifth set of graduands from the Port Harcourt Correctional Centre. Vice Chancellor of NOUN, Prof Olufemi Peters, represented by the Director of the Port Harcourt Study Centre, Dr Nancy Chukwuma, congratulated the graduating inmates for distinguishing themselves by showcasing their capabilities.

Firm refurbishes school laboratories to boost teaching, learning of science.

It was celebration for staff and students of Dolphin Senior High School, Sura, Lagos, recently as they unveiled the refurbished science laboratories donated by Ernst & Young (EY) Nigeria in commemoration of the “2023 EY Gives Back Day” in Lagos.

As institution matriculates 171 students

Founder, Thomas Adewumi University (TAU), Oko, Kwara State, Dr. Johnson Adewumi, has called on the Federal Government to encourage players in the private education sub-sector to do more by providing support.
Speaking at the third matriculation ceremony of TAU, Adewumi said those who invest in education, either at secondary or tertiary level, did not do so primarily for profit.

Michael and Cecilia Ibru varsity commences postgraduate programmes.

Michael and Cecilia Ibru University has commenced admission into its postgraduate programmes for the 2023/2024 academic session after securing approval from the National Universities Commission (NUC).

Students’ Loan Scheme will provide more access to tertiary education, FG insists.

THE Federal Government has insisted that the Student Loan Scheme recently approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is designed to provide more access to tertiary education in the country.

President Tinubu had signed the Student Loan Act few days after his assumption of office. The new law elicited divergent reactions from the public, with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), kicking that the policy may lead to introduction of high tuition fees in universities.

Varsities, not JAMB determine candidates to admit — C’tee of VCs.

The Committee of Vice Chancellors of Nigerian Universities (CVCNUs) has made it clear that each university in the country determines who qualifies for admission among the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) candidates who apply for whichever course and not the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board(JAMB) that conducts the examination.

Secretary-General of the committee, Professor Yakubu Ochefu, made the clarification in an exclusive interview with Nigerian Tribune, noting that JAMB only sets a minimum score to serve as a guide for all the universities and it does so together with other stakeholders.

Okebukola charges Adeleke University graduands on sound character.

Moral and societal deterioration in values and character deficits among the youth, especially students in universities and secondary school, have been attributed to poor parenting, unregulated social media and the ineptitude of government.

The embattled 19-year-old candidate of the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, Miss Ejikeme Mmesoma, has tendered a profound apology to the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board and the board’s Registrar, Professor Is-haq Oloyede.

Mmesoma, who was at the centre of controversy over manipulation of her UTME result, appeared before the House of Representatives Ad-hoc Committee on Allegations of Manipulation of her UTME, Result, on Wednesday in Abuja, where she publicly admitted her involvement and tendered a written apology before the committee, saying “I’m sorry”.
