Nigerian varsities capable of solving nation’s challenges, says Okebukola

Former Executive Secretary, National Universities Commission (NUC), Prof Peter Okebukola, has disclosed that Nigerian universities have the capacity to provide 40 per cent solutions to the nation’s challenges and attainment of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Okebukola, who stated this while delivering this year’s convocation lecture of Babcock University, Ilishan, said the pathway to achieving this was by strengthening research capacities of lecturers through in-country and international training experiences, equipping research laboratories and workshops, and providing sizeable grants for quality research.

Ex-NUC boss, Okojie tackles FG over poor implementation of free education

A former Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), Professor Julius Okojie, has criticised the federal and state governments over lack of effective and faithful implementation of “free education” in Nigeria in line with the provisions of the Universal Basic Education (UBE) programme.

He insisted that both primary and secondary levels of education in the country must make education free and compulsory in letters and in action, saying that it is disheartening to hear that some pupils still learn under trees in some parts of the country.

Ekiti varsity don seeks swift passage of Anatomy Act by NASS

A former Head of Anatomy department in Ekiti State University (EKSU) Ado-Ekiti, Dr Adebanji Akingbade has called for the swift passage of the Anatomy Act by the National Assembly for it to be practised across universities in the country.

Akingbade, who disclosed that the legislation which has reached second reading in the House of Representatives when passed and assented to by the president, would aid academic research in the field of anatomy in the institutions.

FORMER Executive Secretary of National Universities Commission (NUC),Professor Peter Okebukola, has expressed optimism that Nigerian universities are capable of providing solutions to at least 40 percent of the problems hindering Nigeria’s greatness and ability to attain the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in most sectors of the economy.
