Ministry trains 850 stakeholders on new teaching methodology in Ogun

The Ogun State Ministry of Education,Science and Technology, has trained 750 Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) teachers, on the new method of teaching to further promote efficiency and sustain an enviable education legacy. Also trained were 20 Zonal Education Officers (ZEOs), and 80 Education Officers.

Speaking during the opening ceremony of a three-week training, organised by the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology in conjunction with Ogun State Economic Transformation Project (OGSTEP), the Special Adviser to the Governor in the Ministry, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu said the training, which was the second phase of the exercise held in December 2022, was also to improve teaching and learning activities, develop teachers’ capacity, and encourage world standards educational systems.

Financing safe schools in Nigeria to cost N144.8bn ‒ National Coordinator

The National Coordinator, Financing safe schools in Nigeria, Hajia Halima Iliya Ibrahim has disclosed that the investment into the National Plan on Financing Safe Schools starting from 2023 to 2026 will cost N144.8 billion to be implemented.

The Plan proposes to spend N32.58 billion in 2023, N36.98 billion in 2024, N37.15 billion in 2025, and N38.03 billion in 2026, respectively.

Nigerian universities urged to prioritise collaboration

The Registrar of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Professor Is-haq Oloyode, highlighted the significance of collaboration and contribution among universities in Nigeria towards achieving enhanced academic goals.

Students Suspend Protest In UNILAG Over School Fees Hike

The Lagos State chapter of the National Association of Nigerian Students Joint Campus Council (NANS JCC), has suspended its planned protest against the hike in school fees of the University of Lagos (UNILAG).

Disclosing this on Tuesday, the students attributed the suspension to the intervention of the State Commissioner of Police, Idowu Owohunwa.

President Tinubu urged to allow release of US academic records for transparency

Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Timi Frank, called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday to allow Chicago State University to release his academic records to a court in Nigeria if he has nothing to hide. He also challenged the American government and its institutions to have Tinubu’s certificates in Chicago State University released to a court in Nigeria in the spirit of reciprocity and freedom of information obtainable in that country.

Frank, in a statement issued in Abuja, insisted that Tinubu, as a public servant, ought not to seek to prevent his academic records from being made public in a law court. This call comes after Tinubu filed a motion seeking to prevent a United States Federal Court from releasing his university academic records to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, as requested by the latter.

US lawyers worried by Tinubu’s efforts to hide Chicago University records

A group of US attorneys have expressed confusion over the actions of President Bola Tinubu, who they claim is using various tactics to slow down legal proceedings and refusing to disclose his academic records from Chicago State University.

PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar’s lawyers are asking a federal court to issue a summon for Chicago State University to release Mr Tinubu’s school records, but the Nigerian leader is fighting tooth and nail to block the application.

Two undergraduate students of the Federal University of Technology Akure FUTA, Akinfenwa Ridwan and Akintoye Ayomide, both from the Department of Forestry and Wood Technology, under the guidance of their lecturer, Professor Shadrach Akindele, have developed an app for tree volume calculation and Estimation.

The app christened volest, by Professor Akindele, from its main task of Volume Estimation, is specially designed to help foresters, researchers, experts, and students in determining and estimating tree volume in a given forest area with more ease and high precision.Some of the key features of the app, which is the first in Nigeria, include Accurate Calculation, 100% Secured Code, Clean Designs, Friendly Navigation and Clean Record Keeping.Professor Akindele said the app is easy to use and it is a very important tool in forest assessment.

Resident doctors strike: Consultants rescue patients at UITH

Consultants at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, UITH, have gone to the rescue of patients at the Federal government health facility as the nationwide strike by the National Association of Resident Doctors, NARD, enters its second week.

DAILY POST reports that at the UITH, like many other teaching hospitals in Nigeria, the ongoing strike by the resident doctors which started some seven days ago, has placed heavy workloads on the consultants.
