TETfund allocates N1bn for research centre in UI
Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) has set aside the sum of N1 billion for the establishment of the Diaspora Research Centre at the University of Ibadan.
This was made known when the Chairman of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa paid a courtesy visit to the Executive Secretary of TETFund, Arc. Sonny Echono, in Abuja.

School fees hike: BUK secures scholarship for 500 indigent students
The Vice Chancellor of Bayero University Kano (BUK), Prof Sagir Adamu-Abbas, has said that notable politicians and wealthy individuals have provided funds to assist 500 students by giving them scholarships as a measure to assist them settle their registration fees
This is just as Adamu-Abbas disclosed that the cost of running the university is beyond imagination as they spent over N100 million on running costs monthly.

University of Ilesa inherited huge financial liabilities from Osun college of education — VC
The management and Staff of the Ilesa University, Ilesa, Osun state on Thursday disclosed that it inherited huge financial liabilities totalling about N400 million from the authorities of the state College of Education, Ilesa.
The Vice Chancellor of the institution, Professor Taiwo Asaolu who made this known on the Occasion of the familiarization visit of the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Hon. Gbenga Onigbogi to the university, explained that “the large inherited sum was in the form of unpaid bank loan; unpaid internal allowances (Le. peculiar and hazard allowances) to staff for about 56 months, running into about N400m; debt to illegal miners and so many other startling debts”.
US Embassy, TRCN laud Opeifa on teachers’ capacity development project
The US Embassy Abuja and the Teachers’ Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) have commended the 2020 Global Teacher Award Finalist and an English teacher at Government Day Secondary School, Abuja, Mr Olasunkanmi Opeifa, for his strong contribution towards the teaching profession and quality education in the country.
They said the effort would certainly rub off on the education sector and the country’s economy by extension, be it now or in the near future.

TRCN boss emphasises teaching, learning innovations for enhanced quality education
The Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), has said that teachers must be abreast of innovations in teaching and learning in order to enhance the quality of education in the country.
Registrar/Chief Executive of TRCN, Professor Josiah Ajiboye, made this known in a statement on Thursday in Abuja, noted that to achieve this, there was the need to foster collaboration, knowledge sharing, and professional growth among educators, he said would ultimately lead to improved teaching practices and student outcomes.

Mastercard Foundation in partnership with Co-Creation Hub has advised educators on the use of technology to improve learning among disadvantaged children and those with disabilities.
A statement attributed to the July edition of EdTech Mondays said that with the growing interest in the adoption of technology in Nigeria’s education sector, the use of technology for teaching and learning undoubtedly proved to be an enabler of equitable education for persons with disabilities, learners from disadvantaged backgrounds, learners living in rural locations, and women and girls of marginalised groups.

UI gets N1bn for diaspora research centre
The University of Ibadan has obtained the sum of N1bn for the funding of a diaspora research centre, the Tertiary Education Trust Fund and the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission said in a jointly signed statement on Thursday.
The two agencies said it was part of the plans to fund Education Centres and facilities for the Nigerians in the diaspora to foster knowledge exchange, fellowship, research, and transnational projects.

Obi Congratulates Students Who Won 2023 International Debate Championship In Malaysia
Former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, has extended heartfelt congratulations to the Nigeria Debate Team, particularly Team Anambra, for their triumphant win at the 2023 International Debate Championship held in Malaysia.
The winning team, representing Nigeria, was composed of students from St. Michael’s Model Comprehensive Secondary School, Nimo; All Hallows Seminary, Onitsha; and Mater Amabilis, Umuoji. Scandalous dearth of teachers in Bauchi State

International Swansea Uni students removed from Master’s for paying tuition fees ‘hours late’
Three Swansea University students have been taken off their courses after their tuition fees were paid a few hours late.
Omolade Olaitan, 27, Emmanuel Okohoboh, 26, and Paulette Ojogun, 30 were all removed from their respective courses at Swansea Uni’s School of Management because they paid their full course fees less than one day after the deadline.

Project Sunshine, a US-based Non-Profit Organisation, has partnered with the International Aviation College (IAC), Ilorin, to organise AeroSTEM Fellowship for secondary school students in selected schools in Ilorin.
AeroSTEM Fellowship was designed to provide interactive learning activities to young adults to equip them with materials and manuals to build an Radio Controlled (RC) Aircraft.
