Secondary school girls of the Federal Government Girls’ College (FGGC) Sagamu, Ogun State, have unveiled an AI robot called ‘Okikiola-Sagamu’, also known as Kiki-Saggy.
The project, which involved 10 students and a few staff members, was unveiled to the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Education, David Adejo, in Abuja.

Why govt must give mathematics teachers special role, by don

A university teacher, Prof Mojeed Akinsola has called on governments at all levels to give priority attention to mathematics teachers and encourage them financially, saying they have a central role to play in mathematics education.
Akinsola, of the Department of Science and Technology, Faculty of Education, University of Ibadan (UI), said this would attract more teachers and retain those already on the job.

The Principal, Queens College, Lagos, Mrs. Oyindamola Obabori, has advised the graduating class of 2023 to always sharpen their 21st Century skills for success in the global world.

The Director, Polytechnic Programmes, National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), Ngbede Ogoh, has assured that the board will not compromise on quality in the accreditation process.

HDI tracks over N7.4b Lagos basic education funds in three years

The Federal Government has unveiled a report on tracking basic education funds in Lagos State, which was carried out by non-governmental group, Human Development Initiatives (HDI).
Launching the report at the Basic Education National Stakeholders Dialogue organised by HDI, Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Education, Mr Andrew Adejo, said the Federal Government is determined to support schemes aimed at boosting the basic education subsector.

Oborevwori tasks principals on cultism, drug abuse in secondary schools

Secondary schools principals from the 36 states, including Abuja have been tasked to devote themselves to the vision, mission and other challenges confronting secondary education in the country.
Delta state governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, who stated this at the opening ceremony of All National Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), held at Stephen Keshi Stadium Asaba, described the problems in the subsector as enormous and tasked all stakeholders to rise to the challenge.

Varsity abolishes sale of textbooks, gender specification during exams

The Management of the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT), through the Committee of Provost and Deans, has banned sales of textbooks and other materials by lecturers.
They also abolished the specification and separation of gender on scripts during and after examination. In a memo signed by the registrar, Dr. Gloria Chindah, the decision was reached as part of measures to end all forms of gender discrimination.

Onyeme urges youths to build better future with education

Delta State Deputy Governor, Monday Onyeme, has challenged youths to prepare for a better future using education as a platform.He also advised them to shun cultism and other vices that could destroy their future.

UNILAG rolls out measures to ease effects of reviewed fees

Following the recent hike in fees payable by students in line with current economic realities, the management of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) has announced measures to ameliorate the challenges that students and parents may face.

Gov Bello awards scholarship to Cambridge examinations best student

The Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, has granted a scholarship to Miss Oluwabukolami Adeyemi, the recipient of the British Council Outstanding Cambridge Learner’s Award.
In a statement issued by Onogwu Muhammed, the Chief Press Secretary, to the Governor, it was noted that this award is in recognition of her remarkable performance in the 2022 Cambridge IGCSE and Cambridge AS Level Examinations.

Release promotion arrears or risk industrial peace, ASUU tells FG

The Academic Staff Union of Universities following a National Executive Council meeting held at the University of Maiduguri has asked the Federal Government through the office of the Accountant General of the Federation to release outstanding promotion arrears owed its members in the interest of industrial peace and harmony in Nigerian universities.
The ASUU in a statement released on Thursday morning said it was also disturbed by the news of employment racketeering perpetrated through the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System.

UNIZIK students protest sexual harassment, ask VC to release panel report

Some students of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, on Thursday, staged a protest around the school over alleged sexual harassment and intimidation in the institution.
The aggrieved students, mainly females, called on the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Charles Esimone, to release the Prof. Obi Oguejiofor panel report which indicted some members of staff.
