Subsidy: Cross River Gov declares primary, secondary education free

Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State has declared free tuition for all Cross Riverians in public primary and secondary schools in the state, effective from the current academic session, to cushion the effects of the removal of the subsidy on petrol.

In a memo signed by the Secretary to the State Government and Chairman of the Palliative Distribution Committee, Professor Owan Enoh, Governor Otu also exempted the payment of senior secondary school examination fees in the state beginning with the current academic session. Association pledges support for GSS Otukpo

Otukpo Government Secondary School Old Boys Association (OGSSOBA) said the Alumni has executed numerous projects in the school over the years which have gone a long way in improving teaching and learning condition in the institution.

Anambra: Soludo abolishes tuition fees in all junior secondary schools

Anambra State Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, has abolished the payment of fees and other levies in all government schools in the state.

Group unveils internship programme

Accugas Limited, the midstream subsidiary of Savannah Energy Plc, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Inoyo Toro Foundation, for the establishment of the Savannah Energy Education and Internship Training programme within public secondary schools located in Akwa Ibom and Cross River States.

Ondo laments low enrolment in public schools

As the primary and secondary schools resumed last Monday for another academic session, the Ondo State Government has expressed its displeasure over the poor enrollment of pupils into the public primary schools in the state.

Speaking on the development, the Chairman of the Ondo State Universal Basic Education Board , Mr Victor Olabimtan, said he was not impressed with the enrollment, lamenting that there was no reason for any public primary school to be dwindling in number of pupils while that of private schools are on the increase considering the enormous investment in the development of basic education by the federal and state governments. High-interest loan rates unbearable, say private schools

The National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools has said the high interest on loans is unbearable.

Speaking to The PUNCH in an interview, the national president, NAPPS, Mr Yomi Otubela, advised the Federal Government to establish an Education Bank, saying it would help to push for a proposal at the Federal Executive Council for a concessionary interest loan to education institutions.
