AKWA IBOM RETREAT: STAKEHOLDERS ADOPT PLANS FOR IMPLEMENTATION OF ROADMAP

As part of strategies for implementing the Ministerial Roadmap for the Education Sector 2024 – 2027, a two – day brainstorming retreat towards adopting the draft monitoring and evaluation plan and frame work for its implementation has been held.

The retreat, which was organised by the Federal Ministry of Education, was held between Friday, 30th November and Sunday, 3rd December, 2023, at the Ibom Icon Hotel and Golf Resort, Uyo, Akwa
Ibom State, and was attended by both Ministers of Education, Permanent Secretary, Distinguished Members of the National Assembly, Directors of FME, Chief Executives of FME Parastatals, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Technical and Vocational and Entrepreneurship Education (SSAP-TV&EE), State Commissioners of Education, International Development Partners, Resource Persons, Vice Chancellors and other relevant stakeholders.

The objective of the retreat, among others, was to strategically guide and solicit the buy-in of the Principal Officers and Heads of Agencies of the Ministry as well as other critical stakeholders on the comprehensive reforms in the education sector as captured in the roadmap.

EDUCATION COMMISSIONER LAUDS PROF. OLOYEDE

Prof. Abdulwaheed Salihu, the Hon. Commissioner of Education, Science and Technology, Oyo
State, has lauded the Prof. Is-haq Oloyede-led administration for its manysuccess stories in JAMB.

This commendation was made during the Commissioner’s interaction with the Deputy Director, Ibadan Zonal Office, and his team recently at his Agodi Office. The visit was aimed at commending the Commissioner for his warm support during the Board’s 2023 SERVICOM Customer Service Week held recently as well as intimate the Hon. Commissioner of the Board’s preparations for the 2024 UTME.

In his address, Prof. Salihu commended the efforts of the Registrar for curbing the menace of examination malpractice, which, according to him, has plagued the conduct of public examinations in Nigeria over the years, and has led to a downward trend in the quality of intakes into the country’s tertiary institutions. He stated that the success of this victory is evident in the improved quality of intakes across tertiary institutions in the country.

MATRICULATION LIST: JAMB MEETS REGISTRAR, ADMISSION OFFICERS OF TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS

Ahead of the 2024 UTME and Admission cycle, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has met with the Registrars and Admission Officers of all tertiary institutions in the country.

The meeting, which was held virtually, held on Thursday, 30th November, 2023, and was hosted from the JAMB National Headquarters, Bwari, Abuja. The meeting was aimed at intimating participants of the recent move of the Board to automate the Matriculation List (ML), among other issues.

In his remarks, the Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, stated that mechanism had been put in place to automate the Matriculation List and publish the analysis of the Matriculation Lists of all institutions in the country to ascertain those candidates that were legitimately admitted for the purpose of accountability and data collection, among others.

DO NOT LOWER YOUR STANDARD – EDUCATION MINISTER TELLS JAMB

Impressed by its performance in the discharge of its core mandate as well as the various achievements recorded under the Prof. Is-haq Oloyede-led Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board(JAMB), the Hon. Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, has urged the Board not to lower its standards.

The Minister gave this charge at the just-concluded two-day Information Technology and Management Retreat in Abuja held between Sunday, 26th and Tuesday, 28th November, 2023.

In his remarks, the Minister lauded JAMB for its efficiency, integrity of its system and operation culminating in quality service delivery, innovation, inclusivity, as well as leveraging on technology to provide relevant solutions to its operational processes.

ACCEPT YOUR LOT IN GOOD FAITH – OLOYEDE

A call has gone to the staff of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board(JAMB) to accept whatever befalls them in good faith and should, therefore, shun themselves of those unwholesome thoughts that are capable of distancing them from God’s divine presence.

Prof. Oloyede gave this counsel on Sunday, 26th November, 2023, at a send-off party organised for JAMB retirees, members of the academia, who recently concluded their sabbatical leave with the Board, and newly-promoted members of Nigeria Police and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps(NSCDC), who were decorated with their new ranks.

The Registrar, in a thought-provoking counsel, said God is not evil but an embodiment of all that is good, and that man’s journey in this world had being cleverly crafted for his overall development.

JAMB TASKS PCC ON OBJECTIVITY IN TACKLING PUBLIC COMPLAINTS

A call has gone to the Public Complaints Commission (PCC) to remain steadfast and objective in the discharge of its duties.

The Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board(JAMB), made this call when
the leadership of the Commission paid him a courtesy visit at the Board’s National Headquarters, Bwari, on Tuesday, 21st November, 2023.

“For objectivity to thrive, every party has to be confident in the Commission, it is pertinent to be fair to all parties involved,” he stressed.

The Hon. Chief Commissioner of the Commission, ably represented by the Director, Public Investigation Sector, Mrs. Edna Edokpa, said the aim of the visit was to intimate the Board of the change in the leadership of the Public Sector Department of the Commission as well as to further strengthen the synergy with the Board in its drive to continuously ensure a balanced representation of issues relating to the Board’s operations in the realm of public opinion.

NPOM: JAMB HONOURS DIRECTOR

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board(JAMB) has celebrated one of its Director, Mr. Fabian Okoro, Director, Information Technology Services(ITS) for being one of the awardees of the 2023 National Productivity Order of Merit Award(NPOM).

Mr. Okoro’s recognition was part of the activities lined up for honouring some retiring Directors of the Board as well as members of the academia, who had done their sabbatical in the Board. The event was held in Abuja on Sunday, 26th November, 2023, at the Abuja Continental Hotel.

Mr. Okoro was celebrated during the ceremony to inspire other members of staff of the Board to contribute their quota to the development of the four-decade old examination body. He was later presented with a plaque as a mark of honour for doing JAMB proud.

JAMB ACCREDITS CBT CENTRES AHEAD OF THE 2024 UTME

As part of the preparations for the conduct of the 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has commenced its centre accreditation process to ascertain those centres that could be certified as fit to host the examination.

It is against this backdrop that the Board has deployed accreditation teams comprising Technical Officers (TO) from the National Headquarters and State Offices, Chief External Examiners (CEE), Directors of the Headquarters Annexes, Zonal Directors, State Coordinators, Technical Advisors (TA), and Computer Professionals of Nigeria (CPN) to the various Computer-Based Test centres across the federation.

The Chief External Examiners are selected Vice-Chancellors of Universities, Rectors of Polytechnics and Provosts of Colleges of Education who are given the responsibility of managing the conduct of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) exercise in the state of the location of their institutions on behalf of the Board.
