PROJECT C.U.R.E MEDICAL EQUIPMENT YIELDING DESIRED RESULTS – PROF. OLOYEDE
…Says JAMB Has Expended Over N200 Million on the Project
The Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board(JAMB), Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, has said the facilitation of the donation of free medical equipment worth over N6billion in 2022 by Project C.U.R.E to selected health facilities (two in each of the six geopolitical zones of the country) in Nigeria is yielding desired results.
The Registrar stated this when he received a delegation from the National Hospital, Abuja, comprising the Muslim Ummah and the Christian Chapel of the hospital, who were in his office to seek ways of fostering existing mutual partnership with the Board. The delegation commended the Registrar for his many landmark achievements while looking at ways Nigerians can benefit more from the Board’s prudent management of resources.
The Registrar, in his response, recounted his experience at the Federal medical Centre, Azare, Bauchi State, where he had witnessed first-hand, the efficacy of the donated medical equipment in helping to manage life-threatening ailments.
He thanked the Federal Ministry of Education for its support that saw to the facilitation of the project and the Federal Ministry of Finance for waiving all taxes and levies for the equipment when it arrived the ports.
He stated that the Board had played key roles in the facilitation of the intervention with the aim of
complementing health care delivery in Nigeria.
According to him, the Board had expended over N200million to get the donated free equipment into the country and to their beneficiary health facilities, which include the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital; Federal Medical Centre, Azare; Yusuf Maitama Sule Teaching Hospital, Kano; Federal Medical Centre, Gusua; University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital and University of Medical Sciences, Oturkpo. Others are: University of Lagos Teaching Hospital; Federal Medical Centre, Abeukuta; University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, Enugu; Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia, and the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa.
In his closing remarks, Prof. Oloyede assured the visitors that the Board would continue to partner with relevant agencies towards making life more meaningful for the citizens of the country.
DON’T USE DISCRETION WHEN THE RULES ARE CLEAR – OGUN STATE COORDINATOR
A operators in Ogun State to strictly adhere to laid-down rules and regulations on the 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) registration.
The Ogun State Coordinator, Mr. AbdulHakeem AbdulHameed, who made the call at an interactive session with the CBT centre owners in the state on Friday 12th January, 2024 emphasized that no centre was permitted to use discretion where the rules were clear.
Mr. Abdulhameed stressed that the innovations introduced ahead of this year’s registration were designed to achieve a seamless exercise while stating that no iota of infraction would be tolerated from any quarters.
In his words, “…Don’t use discretion when the rules are clear. Let me stress it again that e-PINs must be delivered to candidates electronically while the candidates most show such on their physical phones before being registered, while e-copies of the Reading Text must be given to all candidates pro bono. Also, for security reasons, registration must be completed not later than 6:00p.m. daily, while all documents collected from candidates must be returned to them before they depart the registration point.”
Furthermore, he reiterated that NIMC details recently updated is now allowed during registration so as to apply corrections made on NIN biodata after generation of profile codes. He also stressed that upload of NIN slip, sworn affidavit and NIMC update form for candidates, who requires correction of biodata had also been enabled.
AbdulHameed also warned that no centre operators should complete any registration with their fingerprints, saying that, “where it is difficult to capture a candidate’s biometrics, the affected candidate should be directed to the State Office.”
In his speech, the State Coordinator reiterated that the provided centre SIM card was a unique centre identifier, as such, the loss of it means loss of accreditation. He, therefore, admonished centres to keep it safe while encouraging them to thoroughly supervise their outlets as infractions committed by any outlet would definitely affect their mother centres.
In his response, the Centre Administrator, Ogun State Institute of Technology, Igbesa, Mr. Muideen Ogunfemi, who spoke on behalf of others, expressed appreciation for the untiring efforts of the Ogun State Coordinator for always been there to provide necessary guidance.
BRITISH COUNCIL IN JAMB, CALLS FOR CLOSER TIES
The British Council has expressed its desire to strengthen its existing cordial relationship with the Joint
Admissions and Matriculation Board(JAMB).
The British Council, is the United Kingdom’s(UK) international organisation for fostering cultural relations and educational opportunities with other countries.
The Director of Programmes, British Council, Mr Chikodi Onyemerea, accompanied by Director, Exams Nigeria, Mr Deep Adikhari and Senior Accounts Relationship Manager, Mr Akinola Oladunmoye, were at the Board’s National Headquarters, Bwari, on Wednesday, 17th January, 2024, on a courtesy visit.
According to Mr Owyemerea the visit was also to thank the Board for nominating two of its staff for the Council’s conference scheduled to hold between 27th and 29th February, 2024, in South Africa. He stated that the annual conference was to showcase the Council’ s programmes and activities across the world for students exposed to UK curriculum.
He pointed out that the event would highlight best practices and engender new avenues to network
and interface with other countries on best practices which they could replicate in their various curricula.
On the verification of A’level results, he explained that there are two different kind of bodies, the recognising organisation, which verifies the result and the centre where the students would take the test and get their results. He also noted that essentially within the framework of Cambridge A’levels, the centres do not have access to the verification platform but the recognising body would be issued
with a password to access a secured site. He said JAMB as a recognised organisation, had been granted access to the secured site.
In his remarks, the Registrar stated that JAMB had no problem in carrying out needed verifications, but noted that specific directives were given to holders of 2018 results to verify these with the Council on their own and bring the same to the Board as JAMB does not have access to pre-2018 results.
While noting that the relationship between the two bodies had always been cordial, he expressed hope
that the Board would continue to interact meaningfully with the Council at various levels. The Registrar also intimated the Council of the proposed training for staff of the Board on spoken and written English to enhance staff efficiency and productivity.
LAWAL WARNS CBT CENTRES AGAINST EXTORTION AS 2024 REGISTRATION COMMENCES
As the 2024 registration exercise commences nationwide, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Ekiti State Office has warned operators of accredited computer based test (CBT) centres to steer clear of extortion as the Board will not tolerate any form of infractions in the exercise.
Mr. Hassan Lawal, the State Coordinator, gave this warning in Ado-Ekiti during an interactive session with operators of CBT centres in the state. He noted that the interaction was also aimed at sensitising them on the task ahead as well as ascertain their level of preparedness for the six-week long exercise.
Mr. Lawal reminded the CBT centre owners that the registration exercise is not a money-making venture and stated that the representatives of the 14 accredited centres must desist from extorting candidates, accommodating prospective candidates in their premises, conducting half-way or double registration, as well as mismatch of candidates’ data which could jeopardize their future academic endeavours.
Speaking on behalf of all the accredited centre operators in the state, Mr. Michael Owolabi, Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti, promised to abide by the rules of engagement set by the Board.
JAMB SENSITISES STAFF AND STUDENTS ON 2024 UTME REGISTRATION
In its bid to foster awareness of the procedures for the 2024 UTME registration exercise, which kicked off on Monday, 15th January, 2024, the Director, Owerri National Headquarters Annex of the Joint Admissions Matriculation Board (JAMB), Mrs Gloria Chinyere Anyaegbu, has held an interactive
meeting with members of staff of the office.
According to her, no efforts would be spared to reposition the Annex Office for efficient service delivery.
In her characteristic proactive nature, the Director divided the staff into various teams as: Technical, Awareness and Sensitisation, Counseling, Registration and Protocols. She said, the essence of creating the teams was for all staff to put in their best towards achieving a successful registration exercise. She stresssed the need for the teams to work in harmony in order to create synergy between the administrative and technical aspects of the registration exercise.
In the light of the above arrangement, the awareness and sensitisation teams went out to sensitise potential candidates in some schools within the State capital, which include: Rochas Foundation College, Orji, Owerri North, and African Leadership College, Owerri South. However, other schools yet to be visited owing to the holidays pleaded with the team to postpone its visit till they would resume fully for the new term.
The sensitisation team had a robust interactive session with the schools visited and areas touched upon
included: the registration processes which include getting their National Identity Number, creation of profiles, vending of registration e-PINs and registration of applicants, among others. The team also admonished students to desist from patronising touts and cybercafes rather they should visit any JAMB Offices or any JAMB-approved CBT centres to avoid errors that could jeopardise their future academic aspirations.
The authorities of the schools visited commended the efforts of the Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, for his
laudable innovations, which have repositioned the Board for greater service delivery. They also commended the Director, National Headquarters Annex, Owerri, for the initiative, even as they disclosed
that it was the first time they were witnessing such an elaborate sensitisation drive in the State.
JAMB WARNS PARENTS, GUARDIANS TO STAY AWAY FROM REGISTRATION CENTRES
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board(JAMB) has warned parents and guardians to stay away from its various registration centres as well as avoid any act capable of jeopardising the registration
exercise.
The warning came on the heels of a woman, a graduate of Business Administration from Ahmadu Bello
University, Zaria, who was caught at one of the Board’s Professional Registration Centre(PRC), while attempting to procure a registration e-PIN for her brother, an act that ran contrary to the series of advisories on interference by third-parties in matters relating to candidates with the Board.
In her explanation, the culprit explained that she decided to purchase the e-PIN on behalf of her brother, who was in Kaduna, and as she was available in Abuja, she had planned to enable him to procure the e-PIN for him to conclude the registration, when he returned to Abuja.
The Board viewed this act as a gross violation of the ethics of the registration exercise as it was capable of compromising the integrity of the process. The Board for the umpteenth time wishes to reiterate that guardians and parents are prohibited from coming to the venues of registration and examination centres, hence, it would not hesitate to sanction any individual or groups that act contrarily.
