Undergraduate, JSS1 student commit suicide in Ogun
A 400-level female student of Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, identified as Adaze Doris Jaja, has committed suicide.
Confirming the incident yesterday, spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, Omolola Odutola, said the incident happened on January 27, when Oduniyi Adelaja, the director of Be-Happy Hotel in Ago Iwoye, reported to the Divisional Police Officer that a distressing discovery was made in one of the hotel rooms.
It was learnt that one Adebayo Israel found Jaja lying unconscious and foaming at the mouth. Beside her was an empty bottle of a popular pesticide associated with suicide cases.
The Guardian learnt that with help of others, Jaja was rushed to Best Care Hospital before being transferred to Love and Care Hospital in Ago Iwoye.

Court admits suspended UNICAL professor, lawyer to N300m bail
A Federal High Court, Abuja, on Friday, granted bail to Prof. Cyril Ndifon, the suspended Dean of Faculty of Law, University of Calabar (UNICAL), in the sum of N250 million with two sureties in the like sum.
Justice James Omotosho, in a ruling, also admitted Mr Sunny Anyanwu, a lawyer charged alongside Ndifon by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), to a N50 million bail with two sureties, making a total of N300 million for the duo. Rehabilitation committee seeks renovation of Lagos schools
The Special Committee on Rehabilitation of Public Schools has made known its plans to rehabilitate the 36 schools inside the Tolu Schools Complex, Ajegunle, Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government, Lagos State.
Speaking on Thursday at a media briefing, Chairman, Special Committee On Rehabilitation Of Public Schools, Mr Hakeem Smith, explained that the holistic regeneration of Tolu Complex would help build capacity in the areas of Science, Technology, Sports, and Academics due to the state-of-the-art structures and facilities that would be situated in that area.

Rainbow College, others gift scholarships to underprivileged students
Rainbow College, Lagos, in collaboration with Bridge International Academies and Pistis Foundation, has given five post-primary education scholarships to underserved children.
A statement by Rainbow College said the scholarships were awarded to a select number of students who had demonstrated academic merit, leadership potential, and a commitment to making a positive impact in their communities while also coming from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, as verified by partner organisations.
It added that a total of four students, two graduates of Bridge International Academies and two from Pistis Foundations’ “Kids-Off-The-Street” (KOTS) shelter program accepted the scholarships and are now Rainbow College students. 50 bag first-class as Nasarawa varsity graduates 6,499
No fewer than 50 students of the Federal University of Lafia, Nasarawa State, will on Saturday receive their certificates as first-class graduates in several disciplines during the institution’s sixth, seventh and eighth combined convocation ceremony.
The university’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Shehu Abdul-Raman, disclosed this on Wednesday during a pre-convocation media briefing in Lafia, the state capital.
According to him, a total of 6,499 graduates from the three sets of the university would be awarded degrees during the combined convocation ceremony.
The Vice-Chancellor, who explained that the university under his leadership had made remarkable achievements in the last three years, assured all that the management of the university will continue to maintain its standards to have graduates who would be able to contribute meaningfully to the development of the society. Nigerian varsity students demand govt tackle their hardship urgently
Students in Nigerian universities, under the aegis of the National Association of Nigerian University Students (NAUS), have demanded urgent action from the Federal Government on ways to reduce the hardship being faced by students and other citizens of the country due to the high cost of living.

Akwa Ibom ASUU ends impending strike, lauds Eno’s labour-friendly acumen
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Akwa Ibom State University chapter, has called off its planned industrial action to press home their demand for some unresolved issues between them and the university management.
This followed a meeting between Governor Umo Eno and the leadership of the NLC and ASUU at the Government House, Uyo, yesterday.

MDCN inducts 16 Igbinedion varsity graduates

NOA to introduce nationalism into school curriculum
The Director General of the National Orientation Agency, NOA, Lanre Onilu, has disclosed plans to introduce nationalism as a compulsory subject in the nation’s education curriculum to help inculcate positive ethics and values in the coming generations.
Onilu stated this in Minna during a familiarisation visit to the Niger State directorate of the agency. While speaking with journalists, he said nationalism is a subject that will be introduced in primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions in the country.
He decried the overexposure of children to foreign content through cartoons, saying: “Soon, our agency will soon call for entries from professionals to produce cartoons that promote the local values of our people. Michael Okpara varsity VC raises alarm over fake certificates, transcripts
The Vice Chancellor of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Abia State, Professor Maduebibisi Iwe, has raised an alarm over the prevalence of fake certificates and transcripts in the international community that were not issued by the university.
This is even as he has said that students of the university who allowed themselves to be used by miscreants to destroy the properties of the institution during a riot on Tuesday would have themselves to blame.
Professor Iwe, who stated this on Wednesday while briefing the media about the riot, said that thieves and miscreants took over the school and used the cover of students’ protests to destroy valuable assets.
