ASUU raises alarm over govt imposed hardship on academics, students

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU says, it is alarmed that despite the good intentions of Nigerian academics to make our universities globally competitive, government has continued to unleash hardship on the lecturers and students.

In a press conference in Umuahia Wednesday, following its National Executive Council, NEC meeting held at the Niger Delta University, weekend, the National President of ASUU, Emmanuel Osodeke said “the union undertook a comprehensive review of the state of its engagements with Federal and State Governments on how to reposition Nigeria’s public universities for global reckoning by arresting the worsening living and working conditions in the universities and the nation at large”.

FECA students protest ‘grabbing’ of school land in Ondo

Hundreds of students from the Federal College of Agriculture, Akure (FECA) and the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) took to the streets on Thursday to protest the grabbing of the institution’s land.

Armed with placards that read, “Our land, our school, our future,” “Don’t send FECA into extinction,” “Rescue FECA from land grabbers,” “FECA land is not for sale,” “Federal Government should come to FECA’s aid,” and “Allow FECA to breathe,” among others, they marched to the Ilesa-Owo expressway. UniAbuja graduates 9172 students, 41 first class

No fewer than 9172 students of the University of Abuja (UniAbuja) will be awarded various degrees and diplomas at the 28th convocation ceremony of the university, scheduled to take place on Saturday, February 17, 2024.

FCE Akoka matriculates 396 students

Federal College of Technology (FCE), Akoka has matriculated 396 students for its 2023/2024 Academic session.

The National Certificate Examination and Professional Diploma In Education take 353 and 43 candidates respectively.

A professor of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and provost of College of Education, Hong Adamawa State, Benson Yusuf Baha, has advocated the inclusion of AI in teaching and learning in the higher institutions, especially at the colleges of education, where teachers are produced for the basic education level.

Visitation panel seeks cooperation of management, staff of Abia University

The management and staff of Abia State University, Uturu, have been told to cooperate with the visitation panel, by providing the necessary information.

The chairman of the panel, Professor Steve Okorodudu, made the demand at Abia State Government House, Umuahia, after the members of the panel were sworn in by Governor Alex Otti.

It’s illegal for tertiary to collect tuition in dollar, says NUC

No tertiary institution operating in Nigeria is allowed to charge tuition fees in dollars, the National Universities Commission (NUC) reiterated yesterday.

Acting Executive Secretary of the Commission, Chris Maiyaki, who made the emphasis at a news conference in Abuja, told reporters that it is illegal to do so.

He was reacting to a statement by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) inviting proprietors of private universities and other institutions of higher learning charging fees in dollars.
