Gombe State University’s Hajara Ibrahim Dan’azumi Triumphs in International Quranic Recitation Competition in Jordan

Adefulire commends old school

A former Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Mrs Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, has described her alma mater, St. Joseph Secondary School, Agege, Lagos, as one of the best secondary schools in Nigeria.

She said this at the 62nd Founders’ Day cum reunion of old students of the school during which she was honoured with the Outstanding Ambassador Award.

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has blacklisted two supervisors in Oyo and Lagos states and one examination centre in Borno State for alleged involvement in examination malpractice during last year’s Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) External.

ASUU: varsity lecturers on same salary for 15 years

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has said university lectures have remained on same salary structure for 15 years.

Again, ASUU decries FG’s insensitivity, says industrial dispute imminent

The Academic Staff Union of Universities has again decried what it calls the Federal Government’s “appalling and intolerable” neglect of public universities, saying that government has been “insensitive and non-responsive” since it (ASUU) suspended its last strike on Friday October 14, 2022.

Addressing a press conference on Monday at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, the Zonal Coordinator of the Akure zone of the union, Dr Adeola Egbedokun, said despite ASUU’s optimism at the onset of the President Bola Tinubu administration, governmental policies and actions had failed to instill hope for industrial harmony in universities.

NECO Releases 2023 External Results, Says 67.35% Passed with 5 Credits

The National Examinations Council (NECO) yesterday announced the release of the results of the 2023 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) for external candidates.

Announcing the results in Minna, Niger state, Registrar of NECO, Prof. Ibrahim Dantani, said 74,950 registered for the exam, out of which 74,342 sat for the exercise.

Giving a breakdown of candidates’ performance, the NECO boss said 50,066, representing 67.35 per cent secured five credits and above, including English Language and Mathematics. Zamfara Gov: Why I Declared State of Emergency in Education Sector

Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has described the standard of education in the state as appalling, explaining the recent decision of his administration to declare a state of emergency in the sector.

“The level of education in Zamfara is far below the acceptable standard and we are determined to address this issue by allocating additional resources and funding, improving the quality of education and enhancing teachers’ training,” the governor said at the weekend in Gusau.

He spoke at the 2024 annual inter-house sports competition of the Almufida International Academy, according to a statement on Sunday by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris. 6,920 Candidates Jostle for Unilorin 2023/2024 Admissions

About 16, 920 candidates have participated in this year’s post-UTME test for the University of Ilorin’s 2023/2024 admissions.

THISDAY gathered that the candidates were among the 18,098 admission seekers that registered for the 2023/2024 Post-UTME test of the university.

FCT School Sports Festival: Actions Resume In Ball, Court Events

The festival which is broadly divided into three categories – Primary Schools (13 and Under), Juniors Secondary (15 and Under), and Senior Secondary (17 and Under) began on Thursday with track and field events taking centre stage in all of the centers.

Preliminary events like football, volleyball, handball, basketball, badminton, table tennis, middle distance races, and scrabble; as well as chess, judo and ayo will hold from today at the Abaji, Kwali, Kuje, Gwagwalada, Tunga Maje, Karshi, Dutse-Alhaji and Tudun Wada centers and would last until March 2, 2024 when the curtains will fall on the eliminations.

According to the organisers, top two finishing athletes from the zonal eliminations will converge at the Main Bowl of MKO Abiola National Stadium Abuja for the grand finale slated for March 11 to 14, 2024. CSR: Seplat JV STEP Graduates 358 Teachers In Edo, Delta States

The NNPC E&P Limited/ Seplat Energy Joint Venture (JV) has graduated 331 teachers and 27 Chief Inspectors of Education (CIE) at the 2024 edition of the Seplat JV Education Summit and Seplat Teachers Empowerment Programme (STEP) graduation ceremony for Edo and Delta states.

The events, held in Benin City, are hinged on the Joint Venture’s continued quest to contribute towards the improvement of quality education in the communities and states where Seplat Energy operates, and by extension Nigeria. Public and private school teachers were beneficiaries of the programme.

‘$10,000 For School Fees’ – CBN Limits Dollar Purchase From BDCs

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has placed limits on foreign exchange (FX) sales by Bureau De Change (BDC) operators.

The apex made this known in a document titled ‘Revised Regulatory and Supervisory Guidelines for Bureau De Change Operations in Nigeria’, released on February 23, 2024.

According to the circular, BDCs may sell foreign currency in the equivalent of $4,000 and $5,000 for personal travel allowance (PTA) or business travel allowance (BTA) to an individual once every six months.

CBN said the sale of foreign currencies to the intending travellers must be accompanied by their bank verification number (BVN) or tax identification number (TIN), duly completed e-form, valid international passport, valid visa, and valid international return ticket.
