The American University of Nigeria (AUN) in Adamawa State has delayed the start of semester examinations for undergraduate students by three days. Originally slated to begin on April 27, the exams will now commence on April 30, according to university spokesperson Yusuf Mohammed. This decision comes in the wake of a peaceful protest staged by students on Wednesday, expressing dissatisfaction over prolonged power outages affecting their classes and dormitories.

The students called for extended power supply to aid exam preparation and flexibility in their schedules. Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC), responsible for power supply in Adamawa State, cited vandalism as the cause of the outage. Four transmission line towers along the Jos-Gombe route were reportedly vandalized, leading to the disruption in power.

While efforts are underway to address the issue, the university has taken interim measures to support students, including suspending regular teaching activities to allow for more study time and installing solar power lighting and cooling systems in the library complex. Additionally, AUN has committed to providing a minimum of five hours of electricity daily until public power is restored, while engaging in dialogue with the Student Government Association to address concerns.
