The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced an extension of the registration deadline for direct entry candidates to ensure equitable access to higher education opportunities. Initially scheduled to close on April 11, the registration period has been prolonged due to a surge in applications, particularly in Lagos. JAMB’s spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, urged candidates to remain calm, assuring them that a new closing date would be announced soon.

Benjamin attributed the extension partly to the ongoing Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) across various centres nationwide. He emphasized the importance of candidates registering at the earliest opportunity while awaiting the new deadline.

Additionally, Benjamin lauded the 2024 UTME as the most successful in the history of public examinations in Africa, highlighting the board’s commitment to addressing issues faced by candidates, such as verification challenges and late arrivals. With a record-breaking 1.9 million candidates registered for this year’s UTME, JAMB remains dedicated to ensuring a fair and transparent examination process.

Candidates who faced verification issues or missed the exam due to circumstances beyond the board’s control will have the opportunity to participate in future examinations. As JAMB concludes the 2024 exercise, it continues to uphold its standards of excellence in facilitating access to quality higher education for all Nigerian students.
