The management of Bamidele Olumilua University of Education Science and Technology Ikere-Ekiti (BOUESTI) has taken decisive action following a disturbing incident of student violence on campus. Two students have been expelled for their involvement in a viral video that captured them assaulting a female colleague.
The expelled students, identified as 18-year-old Opemiposi Precious Bolaji, a Mass Communication student, and Genesis Osaro, have faced the consequences of their actions. The incident, which shocked the university community and beyond, involved Opemiposi assaulting her fellow student, Gloria Ajayi, with a stick while threatening to draw blood from her body.
Tope Akinbisoye, the varsity’s spokesperson, revealed that Opemiposi initiated the attack, accusing Gloria of interfering with her alleged three-year relationship with her boyfriend. The video footage, which circulated widely on social media, captured the perpetrator menacingly wielding the stick, expressing her intent to harm Gloria.
In a statement issued by the university, Opemiposi was found guilty of misconduct and a flagrant breach of her matriculation oath, leading to her immediate expulsion. The university authorities emphasized a zero-tolerance policy towards violence and misconduct, asserting that such behavior contradicts the institution’s values and ethos.
The swift action by the university has received support from law enforcement authorities. The state commissioner of police, Adeniran Akinwale, has directed the Ikere area commander to launch an investigation into the bullying incident. Akinwale emphasized the importance of collaboration between the police and the university management to ensure that the perpetrator is identified, thoroughly investigated, and held accountable for her actions under the law.
