The Chairman of Oyo State Post Primary Schools Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), Pastor Akinade Alamu, has announced that the state government has disbursed a sum of N250 million as a school grant to support the activities of secondary schools across the state.

Pastor Alamu made this disclosure during the opening of a two-day training workshop organized for secondary school principals in Ibadan zones one, two, three, and four. The workshop, held at the Ibadan Grammar School’s Emmanuel Alayande Hall on May 6 and 7, marked the sixth in a series of training sessions conducted in various locations across the state.

Confirming the release of the funds, Pastor Alamu stated that the money had been transferred to the bank for distribution to all principals. The grant is intended to facilitate the smooth operation of secondary schools in the state, covering expenses such as terminal examinations, procurement of teaching aids, minor repairs, payment of security personnel, and other relevant services.

Commending the state government for its commitment to delivering quality education, Pastor Alamu emphasized the importance of judicious utilization of the funds by the school principals to achieve their intended purpose.

Furthermore, he highlighted the significance of continuous training and retraining for teachers in the state, with the governor annually allocating funds for this purpose. The workshop, which included training sessions for science teachers, aimed to enhance the competence and effectiveness of educators in fulfilling their roles.

Addressing the participants, Pastor Alamu urged them to approach the training with an open mind and collaborative spirit, emphasizing the need for accountability and dedication in their duties. He also charged them with ensuring the smooth conduct of the ongoing West African Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), urging vigilance against examination malpractice.

In his closing remarks, Pastor Alamu revealed that the governor had approved the full integration of seconded teachers into schools and had agreed to recruit more teachers in the state. He expressed gratitude to Governor Seyi Makinde for his unwavering support for education and urged the principals to share the knowledge gained from the workshop with their staff.

Finally, Pastor Alamu solicited the continued support of the secondary school principals under the All Nigeria Conference of Principals of Public Schools (ANCOPPS) in the state, reaffirming the government’s commitment to improving education infrastructure and standards across Oyo State.
