Bakare Oluwasubomi of Ijaiye Ojokoro Senior High School, Lagos State, and Aletan Oluwajuwonlo of Apostolic Faith Secondary School, Ibadan, Oyo State, emerged as the top winners in the 2024 SystemSpecs Children’s Day Essay Competition (CDEC), securing ₦1 million each in the senior and junior categories, respectively.

The competition, which received thousands of entries from secondary schools nationwide, also saw Anoje Xavier of Loyola Jesuit College, Abuja, FCT, and Olowookere Anuoluwa of Redeemer’s Academy College, Ibadan, Oyo State, as the first runners-up in the senior and junior categories. Elugbaju Iseoluwa of Word Faith Group of Schools, Abuja, FCT, and Gershom Somtochuhwu of Trinitate Staff School, Ikwerre, Rivers State, took second runner-up positions.

Winners were awarded at a National Winners’ Award Ceremony held on June 14, 2024, in Lagos, where they received cash prizes, brand new laptops, plaques, and other gifts. This annual event, now in its fifth year, highlights SystemSpecs’ dedication to fostering technological advancement in Nigeria by equipping young Nigerians with skills for global competitiveness.

The CDEC is a flagship Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative of SystemSpecs, aimed at nurturing intellectual prowess and academic excellence among young leaders aged 9 to 16. Dr. Ernest Ndukwe, Group Chairman of SystemSpecs Holdings Limited, emphasized the company’s commitment to exposing Nigerian children to the transformative power of technology, setting them on a path for success in an increasingly competitive world.

Out of about 3,500 essay submissions, 50 finalists were shortlisted, with three outstanding contestants emerging in both the senior and junior categories. The competition continues to play a crucial role in promoting technological awareness and innovation among Nigerian youth.
