The Director General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has been honored with an honorary doctorate from the University of Oxford. The former Nigerian Minister of Finance shared this achievement on X.com on Wednesday, posting about the event along with accompanying photos.

Dr. Okonjo-Iweala expressed her gratitude and joy in the post, writing, “A great honour to be recognised today by Oxford University with the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Letters (D.Litt. honoris causa). A marvellous ceremony at the Sheldonian Theatre followed by receptions at All Souls and St John’s Colleges.”

The prestigious ceremony saw Okonjo-Iweala in the company of her husband, Dr. Ikemba Iweala, and her daughter, Dr. Onyeka Iweala. She shared moments with other distinguished honorands and notable figures, capturing the celebratory spirit of the occasion. This accolade from Oxford University is the latest in a series of honorary degrees for Dr. Okonjo-Iweala. In June, she received an honorary doctorate from the University of World Economy and Diplomacy in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. Additionally, in October 2021, Luiss University in Rome, Italy, conferred an honorary doctorate upon her.

Dr. Okonjo-Iweala’s recognition by these prestigious institutions highlights her significant contributions to global finance and trade, as well as her ongoing impact on international economic policy.
