AWKA – The principal of Community Secondary School Aguluezechukwu in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State, Mrs. Stella-Maris Ifeoma Okoye, has confirmed that the newly commissioned modern toilet facilities in the school were a project of Hon. Tony Muobike, the lawmaker representing Aguata 2 state constituency, and not the Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB).
Speaking to journalists during the commissioning and official handover of the new toilet facilities, Mrs. Okoye expressed gratitude for Hon. Muobike’s intervention, which addressed the school’s long-standing issue of dilapidated and unusable toilets. She highlighted that, prior to this, staff, students, and visitors were forced to resort to unhealthy and unconventional methods of relieving themselves.
Mrs. Okoye commended Hon. Muobike for being the first politician to fulfill a promise to the school, stating that his prompt action had a significant positive impact. She shared that the lawmaker responded to their plea about the poor toilet conditions and provided modern facilities with a water system, thus ending their practice of using surrounding bushes.
During the event, students expressed relief and appreciation for the new conveniences. Onyekwere Nzubechukwu, a JSS3 student, and Odinaka Ezuma, an SS2 student, both emphasized the improved conditions and pledged to maintain the facilities properly. The Aguata Local Government Chairman, Hon. Dr. Chibueze Ofobuike, also praised the initiative, stressing the importance of a maintenance culture. High Chief Titus Anigbogu, an APGA stakeholder, noted that the new toilets could help prevent cholera outbreaks, commending the lawmaker’s timely intervention. Hon. Muobike, in his remarks, reiterated the urgency of the project and his commitment to addressing sanitary issues in schools.
