Enugu State Polytechnic, Iwollo has announced its maiden edition of an education summit in collaboration with the office of the Senator representing Enugu West Senatorial zone and Senate Minority Whip, Osita Ngwu. The summit is scheduled to take place at the school premises on Saturday, June 29, 2024.
Addressing a press conference in Enugu, Nnamdi Nwankwo, the rector of the institution, revealed that the summit, themed ‘Transforming Education and Laying Legacy,’ is expected to attract participants from all over the country. The goal is to find solutions to the institution’s challenges, such as infrastructure, and to reposition the school for academic excellence.
Notable dignitaries expected to grace the occasion include the Governor of Enugu State, Peter Mbah, Senator Osita Ngwu, various education stakeholders, and captains of industry.
“This is the first of its kind; a summit which affects the entire state. We want to bring to the attention of the owners a list of needs. Since this institution belongs to the state government, the school belongs to the people of this state. So, this summit is for the people,” Nwankwo said.
“We want the school to rise to the beacon of excellence in skills acquisition; so, it can produce middle-class skilled workers. We want to get to the highest level of producing these sets of workers.
“We want to bring to the people the importance of education as is promoted by the administration of Governor of Enugu State, Peter Mbah, whose administration ensures accreditation of more courses in the institution. It is not just any summit; it is a summit in line with the education policy of the state government,” the Rector added.
Nwankwo highlighted some of the school’s needs, including an increase in manpower, more laboratories, more classroom blocks, and additional funding.
Senator Osita Ngwu expressed his commitment to providing better and qualitative education for his constituents. Represented by the Special Adviser Media, Office of the Minority Whip, Luke Mgbo, Ngwu’s office is collaborating with Enugu State Polytechnic Iwollo to organize the Education Summit, aimed at empowering students and supporting the school in line with the state government’s Smart School Initiative.
Mgbo explained that the collaboration for the Summit was borne out of Senator Ngwu’s passion for education and his desire to empower the people of Enugu West.
The institution, formerly known as Enugu State College of Agriculture and Agricultural Entrepreneurs, was renamed Enugu State Polytechnic Iwollo in 2015 through a state Legislative Act. Since then, it has been accredited and continues to grow, although it still requires more structures and resources to fully meet its potential.
The summit represents a significant opportunity for Enugu State Polytechnic Iwollo to address its needs and further its mission of providing quality education and skills training to its students.
