The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has criticized state governors for establishing universities they cannot fund.

ASUU President Emmanuel Osodeke, in an interview, stated that many governors are creating universities to access funds from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), originally meant as an intervention fund.

Osodeke claimed that TETFund has become a target for politicians and civil servants engaging in procurement fraud.

He stressed that TETFund should supplement, not replace, primary funding from federal and state governments.He called for transparent allocation of TETFund resources, involving stakeholders such as lecturers and student groups.

Osodeke emphasized ASUU’s role in advocating for public universities and criticized federal officials for neglecting the tertiary education system.
