A secondary school student, Idris Alex Emeka, from Capital Government Day Secondary School in Adamawa State, has been remanded for allegedly raping a mentally ill woman three times.

Emeka pleaded guilty to the charge at Chief Magistrate Court 2 in Yola. Magistrate Musa Alhaji Adamu, the presiding judge, ordered the remand of the 20-year-old after he admitted to the offence. The prosecution informed the court that Emeka was caught in the act with the woman on June 26, 2024.

According to the First Information Report, the prosecution alleged that Emeka had sexual intercourse with the mentally retarded woman on three occasions. Inspector Galeon Nimrod, the prosecuting officer, stated that Habu Jibrilla, a resident of State Low-Cost Housing Estate in Jimeta, reported the incident to Karewa Police Station after catching Emeka in the act around 6:40 am and handing him over to the police.
