Lagos City Senior College, Sabo, Yaba, recently hosted the EDE Prize competition, celebrating Yoruba language proficiency and cultural heritage. The event featured participants from ten primary schools and twenty-two secondary schools across Lagos.

In the primary school category, fifteen participants advanced to the next stage, including Ololade Joshua from Crown Gate School and Halimat Ajayi from MyHoung Mil Primary School. Secondary schools, such as Clegg Girls Junior High School and Akoka Junior High School, showcased twenty-two participants, with qualifiers like Yusuf Aishat and Adeboye Khalid standing out.

The competition culminated in a successful second day, with winners announced: Abdulbasit Ajikanle from Akintan Senior Grammar School secured first place, and Adio Aliat Omowonuola from Lagos City Senior College claimed second.

Founder Adéoyè Omótáyò emphasized the competition’s role in promoting cultural heritage and linguistic skills, highlighting Lagos as a diverse cultural hub where students embrace their identities. The event, supported by schools, teachers, and parents, not only celebrated academic excellence but also fostered community pride and cultural preservation.

Winners from Lagos will advance to compete against finalists from other states in the grand finale, underscoring EDE Prize’s commitment to celebrating linguistic diversity and nurturing a deep appreciation for languages nationwide.
