A private students’ hostel in Ondo was attacked by gunmen, resulting in the tragic death of a 300-level Linguistics student. The motive for the attack remains unknown.

Reacting to the incident, Comrade Oladele Emmanuel, Vice Chairman of the National Association of Universities Students (NAUS) Ondo Campus Monitoring Committee (NAUS, ONDO CMC), described the event as “sad and unfortunate.” He called on security agents and the university management to investigate the matter and bring the culprits to justice.

Comrade Emmanuel stated, “The circumstances surrounding this tragedy remain unclear, leaving us all with questions and a deep sense of loss. In times like these, our collective safety and well-being must be our paramount concern. We urgently appeal to the AAUA management, the state government, and the security operatives to conduct a thorough investigation into this incident. Justice must prevail swiftly, and the perpetrators of this heinous act must be held accountable.”

He also urged the management of Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba (AAUA) to enhance security measures around the campus and its surrounding areas to prevent such tragedies from recurring.

Victor Akinpelumi, the Spokesperson of AAUA, stated that the university management will release a public statement regarding the incident. Additionally, the Public Relations Officer of the Ondo State Police Command, SP Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, confirmed that the police are investigating the attack to uncover the details behind this tragic event.
