The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Gombe State Branch has raised concerns over the increasing substance abuse among youths. In response, the NBA emphasized the importance of early intervention in its campaign against drug use and abuse.

During a sensitization campaign commemorating the 2024 International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking at Hassan Central Primary School, Vice Chairperson Mwalin Abdu urged students to abstain from illicit substances and highlighted the dangers of drug abuse.

This year’s commemoration, themed “The Evidence is Clear; Invest in Prevention” with a sub-theme “Effect of Substance Abuse on the Prospects of the Leaders of Tomorrow,” featured participants receiving books and pens as souvenirs to encourage their interest in the campaign.

Abdu stressed that substance abuse could jeopardize the future of the younger generation, preventing them from becoming responsible and effective leaders. She stated, “You are to abstain from drug abuse because it will affect the desired future you want. As NBA Gombe Branch, we feel it’s incumbent to tackle the menace through sensitization.”

In response to students’ inquiries about the legal profession, Abdu described it as a noble career that requires a sound mind for effective arguments, encouraging the students to maintain a drug-free lifestyle to pursue such aspirations.
