At the inauguration of a Technical Committee at the New Government House, Little Rayfield, Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang warned that twelve other schools in Jos are at risk of collapse. He called for urgent action to prevent imminent disasters.

The governor emphasized the importance of this investigation following the recent collapse of the two-storey building at Saints Academy Jos, which resulted in the deaths of at least 24 students and teachers and left several others severely injured. He charged the committee to thoroughly investigate the causes of the collapse and assess the roles of all individuals involved in the construction and maintenance of the building.

Governor Mutfwang stated, “It is imperative that we understand why this incident occurred, identify any lapses in duty, and implement measures to prevent a recurrence. Reports indicate that around 12 other schools in the city are at risk of collapse, which necessitates urgent action.”

He expressed his commitment to enforcing stringent measures to ensure the safety and integrity of buildings across the state. “We will continue to enforce necessary changes with compassion, avoiding unnecessary hardship for our people. However, we cannot compromise on the safety of innocent lives. The loss of 24 children is a grave reminder of the urgency of our mission,” he said.

The committee’s investigation aims to prevent similar tragedies in the future and ensure that all schools in Jos are safe for students and staff.
