Niger State has reached a significant milestone as Dr. Mohammed Kabir Abubakar, an accomplished academic and surgeon, becomes the state’s first Professor of Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery.

The promotion, granted by the 15th Governing Council of Bayero University, Kano (BUK), marks a momentous occasion for both Niger State and the university. Dr. Abubakar, affectionately known as Dr. M.K., has had a distinguished career, previously serving as the Head of the Department of Surgery at BUK and Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, where he played a pivotal role in advancing orthopaedics and spine surgery.

Dr. Abubakar’s professional journey is marked by extensive training and experience, both locally and internationally. He received specialized training at Mount Sinai University in New York and served as the Head of Trauma at John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital in Monrovia, Liberia.

He has also contributed as a Visiting Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at IBB Specialised Hospital in Minna, Niger State. Dr. Abubakar’s academic accomplishments include fellowships with the West African College of Surgeons, the Nigerian Institute for Health Care Providers, and the Institute of Management Consultants of Nigeria, alongside numerous peer-reviewed publications.
