The Abia State government has denied reports circulating on social media that the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Goodluck Ubochi, has resigned from his position. Ubochi, who was sworn in just two weeks ago by Governor Alex Otti, has been the subject of false rumors regarding his resignation, which the government has described as unfounded and baseless.

In a statement signed by Ferdinand Ekeoma, the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Governor, the state government accused members of a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and other individuals of spreading the misleading information. Ekeoma noted that both the Commissioner and his family were embarrassed by the fake news, which quickly gained traction online.

“I was shocked and embarrassed by that report, which is false. Even my wife has called me, and she was very embarrassed, but I told her it’s false. The Speaker was the first that alerted me, and a lot of other persons have called me, but I told them the report was completely false,” Ekeoma quoted Ubochi as saying, reaffirming his commitment to his role.

Ekeoma also raised concerns about the frequency of fake news being spread about the state government by alleged members of the opposition, cautioning the public to be skeptical of such reports. “The general public are therefore enjoined to look at any news report emanating from the opposition with suspicion and caution,” he advised, urging citizens to verify information before accepting it as true.
