Pervasive and Mobile Computing Research Group (PMCRG) at Obafemi Awolowo University has called on the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to publish its long-awaited report on competition in the telecommunications sector.

This report, completed by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) in 2022, aims to provide insights into collocation and infrastructure sharing, essential for fostering competition among telecom operators. Industry stakeholders and consumers are eagerly anticipating its findings.

Professor Adeniran Oluwaranti, leader of the PMCRG, emphasized that the report is crucial for understanding the current competitive landscape and identifying challenges and growth opportunities in Nigeria’s telecom industry. He noted that access to this information would support academic research, policy development, and innovations in areas like 5G networks and cybersecurity, ultimately benefiting both urban and rural communities.

The PMCRG’s request aligns with the Freedom of Information Act and the Nigerian Communications Act, reflecting a commitment to transparency and evidence-based policymaking. Oluwaranti expressed optimism that the NCC would respond positively, as the report’s findings could significantly impact consumers and businesses by promoting fair pricing, service quality, and new infrastructure opportunities in the telecom sector.
