The University of Maiduguri’s governing council has officially appointed Professor Mohammed Laminu Mele as its substantive vice-chancellor, effective September 18, 2024.
This decision follows the recommendations from the Joint Council and Senate Selection Board, which reviewed four candidates for the position.
Professor Mele is a distinguished scholar in English Language and Linguistics, boasting over 20 years of teaching experience. Prior to his new role, he served as the acting vice-chancellor and has held several key positions at the university, including deputy vice-chancellor for Central Administration.
Hailing from Mafa Local Government Area in Borno State, Professor Mele’s leadership is anticipated to enhance the university’s academic profile and further its mission of providing quality education and research.
