The Kano government has reopened the Informatics Institute in Kura. Governor Abba Kabir-Yusuf announced the admission of 250 new students during a ceremony on Thursday, marking a significant step in reviving educational opportunities that had been halted for eight years under the previous administration.

Governor Kabir-Yusuf expressed his commitment to restoring all educational institutions closed by former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje. He highlighted the institute’s role in enhancing digital literacy in Kano State and noted that many graduates have achieved remarkable success in various sectors globally. The governor reaffirmed that the reopening aligns with his vision for a robust digital economy in the state. He emphasized the importance of the institute, which was established to equip youth with essential skills in Information Technology.

The Director of the institute, Mutassim Uba-Adamu, shared plans to initiate academic activities immediately and achieve higher accreditation for the institution. He also announced the introduction of an Adult Literacy Program alongside various IT courses, including Machine Learning, Robotics, and Security Installations. Uba-Adamu called for the restoration of staff salaries and the recruitment of qualified educators to strengthen the institution further.

The Commissioner for Science and Technology, Tajuddeen Zaura, reiterated the institute’s focus on information technology-related courses to empower the younger generation. With renewed support and commitment from the state government, the Informatics Institute is poised to become a center of excellence in training skilled professionals for the digital age.
