Professor Uwakwe Abugu, a professor of Medical Law and Ethics, has been elected the new Dean of the Faculty of Law, University of Abuja.

Following a keenly contested election, Abugu promised to collaborate with the university’s management to elevate the Law Faculty, making it the best in Nigeria. He succeeds Prof. Abdurasheed Musa Yusuf, who was commended for his contributions to the faculty.

Abugu, formerly Vice Chancellor of Ave Maria University, Nasarawa State, and Head of the Department of Private and Property Law at UNIABUJA, expressed his commitment to building on the achievements of his predecessors. He highlighted plans to improve infrastructure and academic standards within the faculty, positioning it as the “first choice” for legal education.

A seasoned academic and legal expert, Prof. Abugu holds degrees from the University of Calabar and Obafemi Awolowo University. He has published extensively and serves in various professional capacities, including as Director General of the Institute of Medical and Health Law (IMHL) and President of the Medical Law Professionals Association of Nigeria (MELPAN).
