As part of the 50th founders’ anniversary celebrations for Government College, Lagos, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu inaugurated the GCI STEM Lab, an initiative led by the SAIL Empowerment Foundation, founded by Senator Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru and his wife, Feyisola.

During the ceremony, the governor also launched several other significant projects funded by Senator Abiru, which include a fully rehabilitated 700-seater auditorium, updated administrative offices, and modern lecture halls. Abiru, a proud alumnus of the school, emphasized the importance of quality education, stating that this initiative marks the beginning of broader efforts to improve educational opportunities throughout Lagos and beyond.

In his speech, Abiru reflected on his own experiences at Government College and the value of public education in bridging social divides. He expressed his commitment to restoring the school’s pride and providing an inclusive education system, stating, “Our goal is to ensure that every child has access to a world-class education that empowers them to dream, innovate, and succeed.”

Governor Sanwo-Olu, represented by the Commissioner for Basic Education, praised Abiru’s contributions to human capital development. The event also featured a keynote lecture from Professor Bankole Shodipo, an alumnus, who reinforced the significance of nurturing future leaders through quality education.
